Smothering the weeds with cardboard

This area along the fence line has often been a hot spot of unsightly weeds. Every few weeks I'd pull them out, and while it was certainly a visual improvement, the weeds would be back and I would again have to take the time and energy to yank them out.

I'd begun laying corrugated cardboard in other areas of the garden with good results. Topped with mulch, the weeds are smothered out for a much longer period, thereby cutting down the time spent in pulling weeds.

I finally got around to doing this area, resulting in instant curb appeal. I was able to cover most of the area with 2 large bags of mulch. Hopefully, it will last most of the summer.

Eventually I hope to put in an attractive groundcover, but this will do for now.
