Things We Went To Go Get To Start Seeds. An Awesome Thing To Use For A "Container" Garden.

in #gardening7 years ago

We had a good day today. We went out and got some stuff to put together and are getting ready to start our seeds. I was a good day but a long day as I did some work on the small house this morning and this afternoon we went to Lowes to pick up some potting soil, topsoil and also some cow manure. We got what the van would haul as I had to make some other stops, as always Wal-Mart and the Dollar Tree and their parking lot is so small it would have been fun going in there with the trailer.

This is what we put in the van today. It was 6 bags of topsoil and 6 bags of potting soil and 8 bags of cow manure. That was all in the back and the groceries went in the front. We found another brand of the products that are cheaper than the big name products and are really quite the same. The company is based in Georgia and it is not really local to us but it was from our state. we try to purchase products that come from our state and really love when they are local to us. Black Kow is the name just about everyone knows for cow manure and it is a great product, cow manure is cow manure right, so we are using this brand it is the same as Black Kow according to the packaging but it is about $2.50 dollars cheaper per bag and is the same size as Block Kow. It is Hood Landscaping. The same with the topsoil and the potting soil.

We are going to try them out and see if they work and what the outcome will be. I told you in the last post we would be doing something kinda out of the box on some of our planting containers. Here is what we decided to use for planting our potatoes, onions, and garlic in.

We came across these off of Craigslist and we needed one for the small house as you know. So we needed just one but one was $100.00 or we could get 4 for the same $100.00 so we have 3 left. We put them on Craigslist to try and sell but never got and hits so we will repurpose and reuse them for something we need. They are already sloped for drainage of water going to the drain and we will use a pallet to keep them off the ground. I will put some landscaping fabric in the bottom so the soil does not wash out of the drain with the water. Brace the back up with something to keep them from rolling backward. Just an idea for you and I will let you know how they work out in a future post. As always have a great night/day, whatever it is in your neck of the woods. Thanks for spending a little of your time reading our posts.

OH MY GOSH! What a great idea! I have an old bathtub out back that's just sitting there. Do you mind if I get inspired by your idea? All my gardening is in containers as our soil is much too rocky and clay-like at the moment.

By all means, try it out! That is why I post ideas so everyone can see there is more than one way to do things and encourage people to think outside the box and try new things. Please tell us all how it goes.

Cool beans! I will! :)

Cool brother. We did the same run yesterday. I am not home right now. Hope to be home in the AM.

Not a bad idea! You can also use the cubicle pallet containers. They are designed to store a 1000litres of water. They should be cheap nearby industrial places . :)

Genius! I was curious when you said you’d tell us about your container idea. We have to be so darn careful about what we use, because we’re in the city limits. But if we had the room and freedom, I’d totally do something like that! Perfect containers for root veggies!

Bath tubs? Really? Waste not want not! Looking forwarding to seeing the pictures with plants growing! :-D

Awesome haul! You'll not be having problems with burrowing critters getting to your treasures. This is going to be fun to follow!

We had a problem with the ants getting to the potatoes the first year we were here and tried to have a garden. Not this year!

Wow, never heard of ants being a problem with potatoes. (Slugs got mine last time I tried.) You've got armor plating for protection now, so the critters are seriously out-maneuvered!

What a cool idea!! You could grow TONS of stuff in there!
