One more garden blog post

in #gardening7 years ago

Hi dere, steemians, and welcome to da yooper garden, eh!

Today is the 24th of November, and it was 52 degrees F here this afternoon. That is strange enough all by it's self, no snow, partly sunny, and 52 degrees. And then there was me outside, mulching the leaves with a lawn mower. I really didn't think I'd have the chance to get that done, I figured winter had settled in here in the northwoods.
I even got the rest of the leaves raked up and I got 3 loads of leaves on the tarp to haul to the garden. I ended up with a nice layer of shredded leaves on the garden, so I'm all set now for spring.

As usual, I took pictures, so I'll post some of them now.
First, the piles of leaves.

The cat wanted to come outside for a while while I was outside.

Another look at the leaf pile.

The implement of leaf destruction.

Mowing down the piles. I still had my jacket on here.

Need more leaves! I had to take my jacket off, I was too warm with it on.

More leaf destruction by mower, and this is the result. I should be able to till this in when spring comes without too much trouble.

It's tempting to just leave it on the garden for spring and see what happens. It might be interesting to just plant the seeds right through it instead of tilling it in. I've never tried that before, so it's something to think about.

Well, that's all I have for this post, I hope you found it interesting!

Keep on steeming on!

Oooh, do try the no-till this next year. It might work really well for you!!

That's what I've been thinking about doing. :-)

A few decent days this time of year are so welcome. Nice to see you were able to take advantage of it and the garden will make good use of all those nutrients.

It will make a much richer garden in the spring no matter what approach you take. Glad you had a pretty day to enjoy the out of doors.

That looks like a lot of work. Some might think that raking leaves is easy work but that looked like a big job!

Yeah, raking leaves always messes up my shoulder and makes my back ache...
I'd like to get one of those lawn vacuums that sucks up the leaves and shreds them. :-)

That would be handy

💛 Although I don't do any homesteading at the moment, I love seeing others accomplish these things. I need a patch o land 🙌

My patch of land is just as big back yard. I do what I can where I am. I'd like to have a couple of acres but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
