GARDEN 2019 IS PLANNED AND READY TO GO. PLANTING WILL COMMENCE ON TIME THIS YEAR.

in #garden6 years ago (edited)

I am making plans for my garden early this year as last year i was a month behind. I have been searching the internet to find help as i don't have much room to sow this year. I need to plan what i am growing and where they are going. I want to grow a mixture of Flowers, Vegetables & Fruit.

I already have a few plants growing:

FRUIT

Raspberries
Tayberries
Blackberries
Blueberries

I planted these last year, they grew really well but still waiting for fruit, fingers crossed this year.I tries to grow Kiwi's but they didn't put any effort in so gave up on them. I only have to concentrate on setting Flowers & Vegetables this year. I want a few flowers that attract Bee's and Butterfly's. Such as:

FLOWERS

Lavender
Cornflowers
Sunflowers
Buddleja

I have grown these the last 2 years and find them easy to grow, I am not going to push for quantity, this year i wan't quality. I am going to concentrate on what I know that grows and what i have already grown successfully.

Vegetables

Carrots
Beetroot
Radishes
and hopefully some Tomatoes.

I tried these last year with out much success, I grew 2 purple Carrots a couple of tiny Beetroots and 3 Tomatoes that stayed Green as they missed the Summer months. I will be more prepared this year, planting earlier and making sure they are strong enough to go outside.

I am going to use Egg trays and Egg shells to start them off then once strong enough i can plant the whole thing including the shell into the soil, this will add extra Calcium to the soil plus it will be easier to space out. I will be able to grow 12 of each which should give me a few good growers. These will sit on the window sill, my family have been warned to not throw out the egg boxes. I need 8 plus the egg shells so looks like we will be eating a few eggs over the next few months.

Thank you @son-of-satire

Sort:

A, do half without the egg shells to compare the results.

after the frosts have stopped, takes about 3 months to flower,
B. drill 3/4 x 1/2 inch [12mm] holes in the bottom of a plastic bucket, fill it with a growing mix, plant 4 gladioli in a diamond/square pattern, cover with 2-3 inches of soil, water as required, place in the unused part of the back yard.
C, drill another bucket, growing mix, 1-2 "Pom-Pom Dalia" bulbs, put it in the outback as well.

have fun

Do these keep coming back every year or do i have to do something with the bulbs?

I'm thinking about trying black cabbage (cavolo nero) this year - I read about it but never saw it before. With its interesting colour and form I might put some of it in the flower beds in the background :)

That is something new, never heard of it.. let me know hoe it foes :)
