RE: Mulberry season is approaching here in Australia.

in #garden6 years ago

Nice I’m hoping my mulberry does a decent crop this year. I just did about 12 cuttings of it to put in a new garden in the hopes that 1 survive. Turns out that all BUT 1 survived. I’m going to be overflowing with mulberries in a few years.

I always wanted to do cuttings of mine as well. I'm trying to get my Mum to do that now for me.

That's a good survival rate. How did you do it? Did you use honey or any sort of commercial striking/growth hormone?

If you have surplus and you don't want to plant them out you can always keep them potted for a while and then bag them in those black plastic pots and put them up for sale out on the side of the road somewhere to sell to people. Folks in my town used to do that with mulberries and flog them $10.00 a piece.

I just cut em off the tree, sharpened the end and pushed them as deep into the ground as I could then basically forgot to move the septic hose for about a week.
I’ll keep them all and just keep them trimmed to fill that corner of the garden.
I do plan on doing potted versions one day, I’m just too lazy to maintain pot plants for now.
