Pop Bottle Garden

This is my pop bottle garden that I made this year.

This is how I made it.

  1. Gather up a bunch of pop bottles. I used 16 but you can use less or more depending on how big you want it.
  2. Cut out the center of the bottle leaving 2-4 inches uncut on both the bottom and the top of the pop bottle. The center should be cut so it is only halfway down the bottle.
  3. Under the center put about 4 draining holes
  4. Once you've made your pop bottle pots you need to find something to attach them to. I used 2 old chain link fence pieces and tied them together at a 45° angle with some metal wire then used 2 pieces of metal wire to attach each pop bottle to the fence (one piece on each side of the bottle).
  5. Make sure the bottles are directly below each other that way when you water the top ones the extra water will drain down and water the rest.
  6. Once they are all attached fill up the bottles with soil and then put whatever seeds you want to use. I used lettuce and spinach. I'd recommend to only use seeds of plants with a shallow root system and ones that don't mind being close together since the bottle won't give them much space to grow.

Tip: This is a good way to deter animals from eating your veggies and it can be moved if necessary. This method takes up less room and is simple to water.

Here is some of the veggies already growing in mine :)

Nicely done. Must give you a good view of the root structure.

That's super creative! Do you know how well the pop bottles work in an indoor environment?

If you have a smaller one may be just one row and a bucket to catch any extra water I think it would work just as well.
