Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, a good sequel

in #gaming6 years ago (edited)

If you follow my gaming posts by now, you should already know that I have done a review of the first game, Tales of Symphonia and you should definitely check it out if you haven't already, and give it that sneaky upvote and resteem that I'm waiting for.

The opening screen of the sequel.

The game Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World(ToS:DotNW) released in 2008, which was around the same time I played the first game but I did not have access to the game until after 2011 when I modded my Wii and installed Homebrew on it where I could download any game off the internet, of course all this is pirating stuff and you wouldn't do it normally, but the woes of a gamer with no money to ever buy his games or consoles and having to depend on other for it had to find some way to get by and still be able to play more games, so here I was, doing this so I could play more games on my WII, in 2011, when there were PS3s and 360s out, I was still playing my Wii.

Unfortunately for all you PC lovers, this game doesn't have a port on the PC so you'd have to emulate it if you were to play on the PC. As for all of you who have a PS3 or a Nintendo Wii, you can find this game for yourself if you ever want to give it a try, just grab it.

GAMEPLAY

In my opinion one of the saddest and heartbreaking cutscenes in the game.

Unlike the first part on the Gamecube which was not made in HD although was remade in HD for the PS3 and then later was ported to Steam for all the PC enthusiasts to try out this really old game that should be known to all generations of gamers.

The sequel was better looking in many ways than the first one, but many agree as much as I do that the first one is the better game. Namco themselves didn't consider this sequel a flagship Tales game but kind of like a side game for the Symphonia world.

Emil and Marta having a cute little encounter.

The story in the game takes place two years ahead of the prequel ToS(Tales of Symphonia), where you play as the protagonist character named Emil and his one true companion that follows him around named Marta but along your travels in the game, you end up meeting the whole crew from the prequel of the game, so all in all, it's a fun game where you get to meet the characters that you so loved from the old game once again but with a different perspective in the mix.

Battle System

An ongoing battle scene with a monster in your roster. Whoo, that rhymed.

This sequel unlike the first one that had a 2D battle system revamped the whole battle system, made it into 3D where you could free-run around the monster, plus in addition to this whole new system, there were new set of skills added for different characters. Special skills known as Mystic Artes was the one main massive skill that everyone could use, these skills had cutscenes to them and did high amounts of damage to mobs/bosses.

Result screen of the ending of a battle.

To all of that there was an extra feature to battles where you could add the monsters you fight along the way through a roster that lets you make a pact with the monster to join your party, this pact is given to the Centurions by Lord Ratatosk, who is also a character in the game. You could fight with MONSTERS in your party! Just like all those other games where you can add monsters to your roster!

Skits

There are various ones that I remember were utterly hilarious. This is a skit.

I completely forgot about skits in my first review, but there were skits in the first game which were not voice acted, zero voice acting. Skits were small encounters that you could read running throughout your journey, some skits you could discover by roaming the free world map unlike this game that does not have a free-world map but a one click to destination.

Unlike the first game, this game made sure they made the skits with voice acting in them, and the skits in this game were on peak, this is what I wanted to mention apart from everything good in this game that the skits really added on to the flare that the sequel was looking was, and they really did do a good job with it.

VOICE ACTING

Oh yeah, Emil and Marta getting fucked.

A few of the voice actors in this game for the rest of the crew apart from Emil and Marta who were introduced as new characters along with a few other new characters who had voice actors of their own; some old characters retained their former voice actors, but sadly a few of the voice actors that I liked from the previous game could not make an appearance on this game.

That's it for now all you beautiful people, I will see you around! If you liked this and like my content, please upvote and resteem!
