Ultra Talks: Toxicity in games

in #gaming6 years ago

So, Let's Talk about Toxicity in games.

Recently I had a thought while at Work Earlier today.

Why does all Online Game's Competitive modes Seem to be a Bit Toxic?

What I mean by Toxicity in games is by Players Being general Jerks and Asses to other players while playing an Online game.

This Exists in ALL Online Games that are played Competitively. Pokemon, Overwatch, TF2, League of Legends, Fortnite, Splatoon. Does not Matter. Toxicity exists in ALL of the Competitive communities, or even in the Casual communities.

Think of this Scenario,

You Just Loaded up your Favorite Game, Ready to play an online Competitive match, You join a Server and pick your character or Weapon, and say Good luck to both teams, Expecting more good sportsmenship only to get Hate from a Teammate for playing a Certain Character or Loadout that's "Not the Meta" and Keeps Hammering on you to Change your Character or Weapons. You Ignore him and Continue playing, You Ended up winning the Round and you say in chat that it was a tough one. but then that Guy who was telling you to change your Character/Weapon said something along the lines of "It would have been Easier if you did this and switched to that and neh neh neh." and ended up cussing you out and throwing Personal and Bigoted Insults. Of course this leads to another Teammate or Enemy player defending you, which ends up becoming a War of Hate and Personal Insults and Bigoted Insults.

This is an Example of Toxicity in Gaming.

Here is another Example, and Example I personally Experienced in a Casual Match in TF2.

The Round Started, I was playing Heavy Carrying the team's Push as Usual. It was a Payload match. And as soon as I killed a Spy trying to Trickstab me I Immediately get an Insult from someone. and Guess who it was, the Spy player who I just killed. He said KS (which Means Kill yourself BTW), and when I called him out for Toxicity he Went Full Toxic Tryhard mode and Spouting Insults to not only me but to his team as well.

Now When I say Tryhard I should Clarify, There are Two types of Tryhards, the Toxic types who constantly Throws Hate on anyone who is not carrying their weight, and The type of Tryhard who just tries their hardest to win.

What Happens is when the Latter types of Tryhard joins a Server full of not so serious players, and begins to play for the objective, Only to get Hate for playing the game seriously, Calling him a Tryhard in the negative sense(BTW this is also a Form of Toxicity). And because Toxicity and Hate Spreads the "Good" Tryhard turns into a Toxic Tryhard himself.

Even the Smallest things like saying EZ when winning a match is a form of Toxicity, as it is an Indirect Insult to the other team's Playing ability

I have been a Victim of Toxicity Spread Myself. Getting really Angry and Tryhard-y when I lose because of Toxicity in Games. It was getting to the point where It was effecting me as a Person, So I stopped playing games Competitively and Instead switched to a form of "Semi-Serious" play Where I typically do whatever I want for fun, Though its usually playing the objective.

My point is. There is no Need to be Toxic to someone just because of them not playing the way you like or them absolutely Destroying you, The only thing you are doing is Spreading more Toxicity and Hate. If you get so
Toxic to the point of Hating someone over a Trivial thing then you should play something More Therapeutic to Vent out the Hate in some way....Like an Extremely Violent and Gore-y game, But that's a Talk for another day.

That's about my Two Cents on the Matter.

This Post is not trying to Stir Hate or dumb stuff like that. Its just a Conversation topic. So Please Share your thoughts and Experiences Below.

And Please, No Arguing.
