Gigantic - Game Review
Hello guys, today I would like to do a review of an amazing game that I recently started playing. The game is called Gigantic, it's a free to play one. It combines well-known genres to make an experience that feels new, but familiar.
Rather than making an objective-based team shooter or a MOBA , Gigantic mashes together the best parts of both genres into something unique.
You might feel like you’ve seen it all before, but this combination offers something special, a mix of mechanics that feels dynamic.
The formula of each game is : Players must defend and empower their guardian. A guardian is a massive beast that stays at each team’s base. You gather power for this guardian by killing enemies, summoning beasts and controlling points of interest across the map. Once you’ve gathered enough power, your guardian attacks the enemy team’s guardian.
This is your chance to hustle to the opposite side of the map and attack the downed guardian before it frees it self. If you cause enough damage, you inflict a wound on the enemy’s guardian. Three of those win you the match.
Gigantic requires strategic thinking and planing your moves ahead, a little bit more than the average team shooter or MOBA. The game's tutorial walks you through each phase of the game’s mechanics from summoning beasts to attacking and defending the guardian. The more you play the more the game’s flow feels more natural.
At the moment Gigantic has 21 heroes, all of whom are colorful and bursting with so much character, you can imagine them headlining their own animated film. While it may be initially clear what character archetypes each hero falls into, further examination proves there’s more than meets the eye. All of Gigantic’s combatants are a blend of ideas that break the mold one way or another.
Gigantic takes character diversity a step further by allowing you to modify your hero as they level up. Individual skills or character traits can be changed, giving some attacks news elements or even changing a character altogether.
For example Zandora a galactic, sword-wielding woman who is a melee bruiser but at the same time she’s also one of the game’s few support characters. In addition to slicing and dicing, she can cast buffs on herself and her team.
Zandora has an upgrade that allows her to shoot lasers from her sword, effectively turning her from a melee to a ranged character.
This flexibility makes certain characters feel totally different depending on the situation. Instead of having a fixed kit of skills, players can modify their heroes to meet the demands of any situation.
This idea isn't new at all in the space of MOBAs, but considering the flow of Gigantic’s combat and how often it changes, the choices feel even more situational.
Since Gigantic is free-to-play, not everything is unlocked for use to start; you’ll need to work through matches and gather currency to eventually unlock every hero of the game, as well as some of their skins or summoned creatures. This system offers up in-game currency which you earn by playing and special currency you can buy with real-world money.
In some ways, Gigantic is a jack of all trades, pulling influences from half a dozen different disparate games and genres.

Hope I've convinced you to try it! I personally love the game, and its unique feel!
Very nice article. My only problem is that I don't have enough time to play multiple games. I am playing League of Legends right now, and you do have to play quite a lot to stay in shape and be able to improve. Let's say I would try Gigantic and I would love it, but probably would not give up my LoL "career" since I invested a lot of time and energy in it already. Thoughts?
I had a look on your blog and I really like your topics -> followed
You really should post more frequently :)
Thanks a lot for reading! Well you could play Gigantic, now and then but keep LoL as your main game. I will follow back! Have a nice one!
