Netflix Witcher Series: I fuckin called it didnt I?

in #gaming6 years ago

I fuckin called it didn’t I? Ever since it was announced I had a bad feeling about this extremely “diverse” production team. Who all swore high and low to be massive fans of the franchise. Turns out the above mentioned was not really all that true, to begin with:

The above image is a casting call for a BAM (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) so basically, they are looking for a none white person to portray the role of Ciri. And to all those people stating that Ciri was never described as being white:

Not forgetting her iconic appearance in the third Witcher game, which you guessed it fits what the booked described her as perfectly:

But wait! Didn’t Lauren S. Hissrich swear high and low that they won’t be doing this?:

“Story comes first.”

So much for that promise right? I am guessing politics and social justice trumps good writing and not fucking with the source material. So why does this bother me so much you might ask? Well, this Reddit comment pretty much sums up my feelings towards this:

But in a certain way these casting choices make sense when you consider the following:

The instant they showed the writer’s group getting “woke” about asylum seekers I knew the writing was on the wall for this show. While I have no issue with the protest itself, why was there a need to use the Witcher hashtag?

Even as far back as the announcement, they made on Twitter about working on the TV series I was already hearing alarm bells they were more concerned about sharing pictures of muffins and the champagne:

And being “woke” and partying it up than actually sharing their ideas on the show:

You can only imagine the shit show if it was a Black or Asian character and they cast them as a white person. There would be literally thousands of articles written about it the next day as we have seen countless times in the past. The same people who have a problem with whitewashing are sadly okay with this. Why is it okay to change a Slavic character based off Polish lore into a black person? How many black Polish characters do you know fictional or real? And before I end this article I have one thing I just and to add:

[Editorial Note:] We can expect the next few weeks filled with articles on how the Witcher fandom is extremely toxic and racist, and how they aren’t really fans of the franchise because they cannot accept the changes being made. We can also expect the production team turn on the fandom and start calling them names and discounting their opinions. I hate being right…
