Atari is making a new Video Game Console for the first time in over 20 Years
Atari is Making a New Retro-Style Home Console
Atari was once the most dominant force in the gaming industry. Thanks to the video game crash of 1983, Atari was reduced to being a shell of its former self. Nearly 20 years after the release of the ill-fated Atari Jaguar, gaming’s first giant is poised for a comeback.
Atari CEO Fred Chesnais said in an interview with GamesBeat last week, and it is teasing a new product.
Details are extremely scarce—Chesnais says only that "We're back in the hardware business"—but he hinted that the new machine will be based on PC hardware.
A YouTube video posted earlier this month to a teaser website suggests that the new product will be called the AtariBox, and have wood paneling akin to the original Atari Video Computer System. But it leaves fans guessing as to the rest of the details, with little more than an offer to subscribe for email updates.
Looks like it could be sweet.
Big news! I love the wood paneling, just like I remember. Spent many years playing that thing. I really do hope they can re-create that same feel. It seems like they are well on their way!
LOL this should be good, the Big Upset in the console wars^^ Wonder if it will happen this year? Thanks for the info!
