4.2 Million Nintendo Switch Consoles Sold in March Despite Shortages
A staggering 4.2 million Nintendo Switch consoles were sold in the month of March, Nintendo has revealed.
Nintendo had faced supplier shortages as well as delays as a result of the coronavirus crisis so these numbers are even more impressive given the current situation.
The company has also revealed that between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020, 21.03 million Switch consoles were sold worldwide. That means that 20% of Switch sales for the past year occurred in the month of March alone.
Despite the problems that coronavirus has brought to many companies around the world, it would appear that people having to remain at home has had a positive impact on sales of the Nintendo Switch. The release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons also likely played a role in convincing even more people than normal to pick up a Switch.
The Nintendo Switch has proven to be a huge hit with gamers and its success is likely to continue long into the future. While the next-generation of consoles is just around the corner, Nintendo are in a great position to compete with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X despite the limited hardware of the Switch. That's because unlike the Wii U, Nintendo have gone above and beyond to ensure that the Switch is well supported with a range of both first and third party titles.
