10 Reasons To Be Excited About Video Games In 2018

It's going to be a great year. Coming up in 2018, there's more new and exciting titles than I can remember.

You need to be on top of your game if you're going to make the most out of the year ahead. Here's a list of the games that are going to cause the most excitement in 2018. Oh, and before we begin, these may not the best games, but they're going to cause a buzz. And some of them are not available for certain platforms.

Sea of Thieves (PC, XBOX)

This is an exciting one. The interesting thing about it is that it already has a fanbase, who've been playing it to death in Beta (or was it Alpha?). Getting drunk, stealing pirate ships and generally being as dastardly as possible on the high seas should appeal to everyone.

What may not appeal to everyone are the cartoonish graphics, which instantly make it fun, but may potentially turn off more serious gamers.

Far Cry 5 (PC, XBOX, PS4)

Now, I was never a big fan of this series. I tried the third one and it was kind of fun (if a little too difficult) and it all fell apart when I tried it's Multiplayer, which was frankly shocking.

However, this new title seems to have the weirdest plot yet. It's all about a cult, and I can't see this game not making a huge splash. There's a dedicated fanbase too. Oh, and no wooly mammoths either.

Agony (PC, XBOX, PS4)

This may well be the most intriguing game of the year. It's got some weird possession story underneath it all, but that doesn't really matter when you realise you travel to Hell in the game. And that's the real Hell, with demons and everything.

It looks scary, and it may not be everyone's cup of tea. But it's different, and that will make it a much-discussed title this year.

Days Gone (PS4)

This looks like it may have the chance to be a good zombie open-world title. It has no release date yet, so it may not even make it to stores this year. But take a look at the gameplay in the video above. It looks fantastic.

Violent as hell, and definitely not one for anyone with any aversion to gore, it could well be the big game of the year.

Dragon Ball Fighter Z (XBOX, PS4, PC)

This one makes the list because it instantly makes me think of the Street Fighter series. It's bold and colourful, and the best thing about it is the ability to have 3 v 3 matches.

No, I don't know how that works either. But the trailer in the video does show it happening. The very idea gives me a headache. Just make sure you start hanging out with some friends who can do this sort of thing. It is very frustrating to lose at a game like this. That's what I've heard, anyway.

Metal Gear Survive (PC, XBOX, PS4)

This is not like the other MSG games. It has a true arcade feel, as you try to survive against multiple waves of zombies.

There's no sneaking about or tactical play, other than finding the quickest way to wipe out the undead. It sounds like it may be a lot of fun, but I'm not entirely sure it will feel that way for real metal Gear fanatics.

A Way Out (PS4, XBOX, PC)

First of all, you've got to get over the fact that one of the characters in this game seems to be played by Sean Penn. Then, you'll need to embrace split-screen. Either grab a friend or team up online because the game cannot be played otherwise.

You're going to break out of a prison. You need a friend to help. That's it. But I think this is the most original game for a long time. Two players or nothing? Could it be the first game to promote friendship?

Anthem (PC, XBOX, PS4)

There isn't really much for me to say here other than 'watch the video'. It looks stunning, plays like a dream (the video was shot at E3 2017, on an XBOX One X) and looks like EA sat back for a couple of years making notes on Destiny, before making their own version.

It uses the Frostbite engine, which is always a good thing. It also looks very cinematic. One to watch.

Vampyr (PS4, XBOX, PC)

ETA: Spring

Mean and moody and not a little scary, this game has a lot of promise. You can play a good doctor trying to save the people of the city, or you can play a Vampyr, trying to do the er...opposite.

Luscious graphics, intense atmospherics, and what looks like the best attempt at a GTA for vampires.

Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, XBOX)

ETA: When Rockstar feels like it

This is the biggie, the one that seemingly everyone is waiting for. The first Red was a huge (and possibly unexpected) success. This one has a lot to live up to.

The trailer above shows it might just do it. The rich story of the first game was no fluke, and this one looks to be just as compelling and tragic. Just be prepared for delays. Rockstar has said Spring, if that helps.

But those visuals. Wow.
