Gambling in 5th edition D&D 1 of 7
This is a simple overview of the method that I use for gambling in 5th edition D&D. First off, we have 6 games that we allow proficiency in to game. Dice, Chess, Playing Cards, Three Dragons Ante, Animal Races, and Fighting Pits.
Each gambling session has four sections.
- Your initial proficiency roll in one of those six methods of gambling. This roll does not receive any ability bonus to it. This is your starting score.
- You roll an ability check to modify future checks in the game.
- You roll a second ability check to modify the DC of the total score
- You roll a third ability check which gets added to your score from step 1.
On every roll you get to add the proficiency from the game as well as any proficiencies to the ability checks. Each steps ability checks change based on what method you are using to gamble. The hours that these games take may vary as well. The results may be full loss, partial loss, break even, partial gain, or full gain. There can be quite a bit of variance.
Below are the ability checks that we are currently using in the gambling methods. As I finalize the rules these are subject to change.
For Dice: Investigation, Perception, Sleight of Hand
For Chess: Insight, History, Investigation
For Playing Cards: Insight, History, Deception
For Three Dragon Ante: Deception, History, Insight
For Races: Nature, Animal Handling, Endurance
For Fights: Insight, Performance, Athletics
