World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth pt 1 - Prelude Screenshots/Backgrounds

in #gaming6 years ago (edited)

Late into the Legion expansion for World of Warcraft I decided to reactivate my account. I used to play waaay back in the day during Vanilla-The Burning Crusade. I was, at least what I'd consider, a "hardcore raider" towards the end of my stint. Seeing WoW as a sort of electronic addiction, I staved it off for a while, but peer pressure finally brought me back after nearly a decade.
The new expansion, Battle for Azeroth, was released a couple months ago. Like I often do in aesthetically pleasing games, I ended up taking a number of screenshots in the process of leveling and exploring on my character in the new lands offered.

A final shot from my Legion (Demon Hunter) Main in the Broken Shore

The result of the fallen titan's last ditch effort to wound Azeroth, creating the great wound we must now heal

We were forced to surrender power to help undo the damage Sargeras inflicted.

The effort was not enough, we were given the very heart of Azeroth in the form an amulet to help heal the wounds all across the land. From these wounds sprang "azerite", a powerful new material and motivation FOR WAR!
Knowing this our leader, Warchief Sylvanas, made a preemptive attack on the Night Elf homeland, her very own former home. In one "fel" swoop she struck a blow to the very core of hope in the alliance.

Following such an act, retaliation was inevitable and severe. The boy king and his entire Alliance main force met the Warcheif at her own gates of Lordaeron. This was a fitting scene considering this was the dilapidated former home of the Alliance.

Seeing defeat becoming more inevitable, the warchief decided to implement some sinister tactics, even sacrificing some of her own soldiers in the process to be reanimated as the living dead, Forsaken.

However, the Alliance had their own trump card hidden away which comes into view as Jaina Proudmore makes an entrance on her father's formerly sunken flagship.

Using her powerful magic she was able to stave off the blight and bring down a section of the castle walls. As this happens the warchief begins to recognize the increasingly small chance of victory.

After tactical retreats to minimize the losses, Lady Sylvanas is cornered in the throne room.

When you have a prey cornered and they have this careless expression... it's probably a good idea to start thinking harder about who has really cornered who.

Suddenly, using her banshee powers the warchief makes a exit while bringing the entire building down around the Alliance party.

Using Jaina's powerful magic the Alliance party manages to escape in time for one last view of the Horde warchief before they both finally retreat. Lordaeron has been forefit and destroyed in the process. If the Dark Lady can't have the castle, nobody can.

Well, this ended up being longer than I anticipated. This is only the prelude to the expansion, I will likely post more to follow. You could see this post as a form of admission that my addiction has returned, as well as my participation in a raiding guild. Raiding screenshots will soon follow also :D

Hah! So how does it feel to be back to WoW after a while like that? I've also been playing it back from Vanilla up until WOTLK. And same as you :) just recently restored my password and am having thoughts of getting back in, at least to dip a toe.
I've actually been doing some "historical" gaming posts lately, covering noteworthy games released in certain years (just made two about 93 and 2000) and WoW is arguably one of the best MMOs out there with an incredible level of detail

Oh yeah, WoW is an incredible game. I think i had a sort of craving for it ever since i quit, other MMO's and solo-RPGs aren't quite the same. This week i've finally started getting a little tired of it, but it's a weird mix of nostalgia and adventure when I play. I'm a little worried though, sounds like a lot of players aren't particularly happy with the way the game is going, i'm hoping the player base doesn't start declining because of it. My guild is almost though the first raid in Heroic difficulty, that's probably the most enjoyable part to me - raiding. It's nice to be with a raid group again.
