MachineGames chose Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus as a somewhat unusual DLC track, because you play with three other characters instead of BJ Blazkowicz. A good choice as far as we are concerned, because the previous two adventures in The Freedom Chronicles absolutely tasted like more. Meanwhile the third and final episode has appeared, The Deeds of Captain Wilkins and that brings us to Alaska. Although we do not get to see much of the beautiful nature, this extension is also great for Nazi pops.

Veteran Captain Wilkins

Gerald Wilkins is a veteran of the first hour. He has worked incredibly to defeat the Nazis, but as we all know, this has not been entirely successful. At the start the veteran is in hiding until he gets a message about a huge dangerous weapon. Since New York is already destroyed, he decides to pick up his weapons to prevent the Sun Gun from being used again to destroy cities and countries. That brings him to Alaska where he initially has to turn off big guns, but that does not go as expected thanks to a number of events in the story.

Fortunately, Wilkins is just as bad-ass as Blazkowicz, so without too much effort, he beats all Nazis on his path and that eventually brings him to the actual weapon, the Sun Gun. We will omit further specific details so that you can experience this yourself. Also for this expansion applies that if you liked the game and the previous expansions, that you will entertain yourself with these three new levels. The levels are on the big side, so the playing time is also a bit longer than the previous episode. With a little two hours the playing time is almost double compared to The Diaries of Agent Silent Death and another hour longer when you go for the collectables.

Hard action and entertainment at the top

Captain Wilkins is very similar to Blazkowicz, as he also has an intense hatred towards the Nazis. He seizes every possibility of eliminating the Nazis and he does not argue that that is about what he lives for. However, he gets help from an unexpected corner and that makes quite funny conversations. So he is still of the old stamp with the result that he has nothing with modern equipment. At the start of mission three he has headphones on his head, with which he jumps into the water. He thought it was meant to keep his ears dry until someone started talking on the radio and he was startled by an accident.

You understand that this makes for a funny moment. The person on the other side of the line advises Wilkins to use stealth and to find quiet routes to reach the final goal. something he completely grinds to, of course, with a nice conversation as a result. In short, it is not lacking in humor in this episode and the same goes for the action. You will encounter a huge number of enemies that are extremely well suited to come to an end in the most horrible way. Slap your ax, double-wheeled, throw grenades... it's the way you're used to the game and it clearly exceeds the first two episodes in terms of action. In short, it is wonderful to shoot Nazis again and that Wilkins can be the best.

Extras...

If you have completed the three chapters with Captain Wilkins after roughly two hours, it is done with the narrative DLC. Unfortunately, this extension does not offer a general conclusion for the three individual stories concerning a collaboration between them and Blazkowicz. That would have finished the net a bit more with a view to a possible third part. In this they will undoubtedly return in a certain form, but how and what is still waiting. Maybe there will be a closing video later or something similar, otherwise the wait until a new part is announced.

Apart from the narrative mini-campaign, this expansion adds three more Combat Simulations to the game. This means that the number of DLC will be 9 additional challenges and, just like before, they can be very challenging, especially if you play at the highest level of difficulty. Again they are fun to try, but it is just how important you think it is to get a good score. The playing time is very variable, but if you're a die-hard, you can still add another hour or two and that makes the playing time of The Deeds of Captain Wilkins more than fine for that decade that is asked for.

Conclusion

With The Deeds of Captain Wilkins, the DLC track for Wolfenstein II The New Colossus ends and that is a shame. Although we have not played with Blazkowicz in recent months, these characters have also been able to contribute. They have proven themselves at home in the franchise because of their peculiar characters and each one uses a little different gameplay, which benefits the variation - as far as possible. If you enjoyed the previous expansions, then this one is definitely worth it. Do you have the Season Pass? Then of course it is a no-brainer.

Thanks for reading.
