Do not forget to put these games on your radar in 2018 - Small budget, a lot of potential

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

It is 2018 and there are again many potential toppers on the radar. Titles like God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Far Cry 5 should appear in the first half of the year, let alone what the rest of 2018 will offer. It is an art not to lose sight of the smaller games between the violence of the big names, so it's time to put some of these potential toppers on the same page.

Few of the mentioned games still have an exact release date, but they are all scheduled to come out this year. It is always possible that titles are postponed, hopefully to meet the incredibly positive first impression they make.

Fe

Every now and then Electronic Arts releases a somewhat smaller title under the EA Originals series, including Fe from the Swedish Zoink Games. This cute 3D platformer is especially made to relax by discovering the magical forest of the game and enjoying the calm atmosphere. Players control the sweet little bird Fe, which literally means 'fairy' in Swedish. Fe is able to communicate with the forest through her singing, in order to open certain paths and to learn the language of other animals in exchange for help.

With the arsenal of songs that players build, the world to be explored is opened up and new puzzles can be solved. The forest itself is perhaps the most important reason for getting excited about the game. The beautiful contrast of light colors and dark environments is reminiscent of Ori and the Blind Forest and works in combination with the beautiful nature sounds very relaxing.

Vampyr

Vampires are generally associated with sex and murder and rarely with dilemmas or rational decisions. Developer Dontnod, known for the special Life is Strange, brings a game this year that puts vampire in a different light. In the action rpg, doctor Jonathan Reid struggles with the fact that he has been transformed into a creature of the night, while London in the year 1918 must be saved from the murderous Spanish flu. To make a chance in fights with enemies, Reid must drink the blood of survivors and become stronger, but it is up to the player who will be the victims.

Vampyr is strongly driven by the story and rewards players who have trouble killing innocent people by giving hints about who has a good heart, and who deserves to be completely emptied. The choices that Jonathan makes do not only influence his strength and thus the degree of difficulty of the game, but also the fate of the city.

Goose Game

Stealth games are available in all shapes and sizes, but we have never been able to work as an anti-social goose before. In the Untitled Goose Game, perhaps in the future labeled as Metal Gear Goose, players control a goose that has to infiltrate a garden by making life difficult for the gardener. In the short trailer we see how the goose uses the radio of the man to distract him, stealing his shovel by sheltering in his crops and taking off with his keys. Although it is still unclear how large the game will be, it looks so hilarious until now. Maybe in 2018 we will get the best goose game since goose board.

Ashen

A much more serious game is Ashen, who was in the limelight on the recent E3 at Microsoft. The game takes place in a cave that is buried under the ashes of nearby volcanoes and as a result is shrouded in darkness. Players have their own settlement and are forced to go on dangerous tours in dark caves to further expand them.

Ashen is a typically spicy action RPG with light and heavy attacks, evasive maneuvers and a simple loot system. However, the game must distinguish itself by the dangers that lie in the sometimes pitch-black dungeons and the help of other players as gameplay mechanisms. Although the game revolves around the solo experience, in some areas a different, unknown player is needed to survive. Whoever kicks it to the end of a dungeon will be rewarded with special items and a strikingly cinematic side of the game, which we saw a long time ago in the announcement trailer.

The Last Night

Although we still know very little about The Last Night, the game should not be missing from this list. The Last Night combines pixel art with razor-sharp 3D elements in a post-cyber punk world. Players take control of Charlie, who tries to find his way in a city where residents have a universal income and try to define themselves by what they consume. Developer Odd Tales wants to create a compelling science fiction story about a dark vision of the future through multiple call options and the memory of all npc's. As the game progresses, Charlie is subjected to all sorts of restrictions from politics and enforcement, for which players have to act more and more creatively. How this will work out is still unclear.

Praey for the Gods

Praey for the Gods was best known for the fuss around the name, which Zenimax found too much like Bethesda's Prey, but that is not the kind of attention that the game deserves. As an unknown female protagonist players embark on a winter island where all kinds of circumstances reduce the chance of survival. Keeping warm is of course essential, but food, sufficient sleep and weapons are just as important. Exploring the environment for materials to make different items is therefore an important part of the gameplay. Especially when you know that large, Shadow of the Colossus-like idols on the island pose a major threat. Whether Praey for the Gods will be just as good as his main source of inspiration will hopefully be invented this year.

i like game, and i will posting about game to, but i must learn more from you..

Hi mate, nice post! I think Ashen looks great. I'm a complete sucker for those kind of survival rpgs though so it's no great surprise to me.

Interested to see how they play around with the darkness aspect of things. There must be some cool things they could think up but I imagine it will be fairly standard stuff by the time of release.
