Mafia: The City Of Lost Heaven - The Forgotten Masterpiece
Introduction
I am going to talk a bit in this article about one of the best video games ever created, especially for the fans of the crime and drama genres. Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven is a third-person shooter video game that was released for PC in the year of 2002. To this day, it remains one of the best games ever created about the mafia. Set in the 1930s, the game captures the life story of Thomas Angelo, a hard working taxi driver that joined the biggest organized crime family in the country.
The Story
The story is absolutely beautiful and i think that it's worth a movie. A movie made after the game story will certainly be up there with the Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino or other classics like that. As i said, "Tommy" Angelo was just a regular guy working as a taxi driver. On a regular night, he was on a break. He didn't know that his life is about to change forever. He is approached by 2 mobsters that were running from a rival gang. He has no choice but to help them get out of there since he was feeling in danger. He manages to do so and that's how he is introduced to a life of cirme. From there on, he is about to become a totally different person. He says it himself: "you can never predict what God has in store for you".
The Gameplay
You have 21 missions and you will do all kinds of stuff. You will be involved in car chasings, assasinations and you will have to do a lot of on foot exploration. Set in "Lost Heaven",a city that has many real life influences, the atmosphere is simply beautiful. The world details are good. You will really feel like in the 1930s. There are also a lot of well detailed places in the town. A musem,a church,an aiport and the city has a beautiful country side.
The Soundtrack
It contains some beautiful old school songs that really fit the atmosphere of the game and they will really take you back in time. A lot of the classics of the legendary Django Reindhart and many other jazzy themes + some great classical music.
The Story Again
It's literally the best part about the game. You join the mafia, you make a lot of money and connections. You marry some beautiful woman and you have a child. You think that everything will be good like this forever but in this kind of life, everything can change very fast. You make one wrong decision and you have to pay for it. One of your best friends end up dead and the other best friend will set you up to have you killed. After all, there are no real friends in this kind of life. You manage to overcome everything and it looks like you will get out this dirty game. You are a really lucky person. Or maybe no ? Like always, your past actions will caught up with you sometime.
When it's all said and done, was it really worth it ? The main character will tell all of us that it's not, but it's already too late for him.

Here are the last words of Tommy Angelo, the main character and i think that there is real wisdom in them. Everyone has something to learn from all of this. This was my cover of the original Mafia 1 game. If anyone has made it this far, i salute you ! It means that you are a fan of this game like i am and you feel the same way as me.
an amazing game, mafia 2 isn't to be forgotten either...too bad that mafia 3 was poorly made
Thanks for taking your time to comment and hopefully read a little part of my post. Cheers !
Oh man I have so many fond memories of this game (apart from the racing circuit :D )
Also, most people wont realize this, but this game had a simply amazing czech dabing (well not dabing since the czech version was the original).
Great post! Would you mind if I included it in today's "best of gaming"?
Many Thanks for your comment @gaming-trail ! It means a lot to me. Of course i would not mind.
I think that even us, the big fans of this game had a big problem with it. The racing mission, haha. I didn't enjoy that either. As for the dabbing, i have seen some ofthe original version cutscenes and they surely sounds better and it seems like more passions was put into it. However, i think that the english version is very good too. I don't have any problem with it.
this scene is my favorite from the original
