A Case Study for Building Bigger Prize Pools in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate | Blockchain & Esports [ MMG]
I recently came across a Tweet about recent Smash Bros. Ultimate “Major” Event, Big House 9, that really struck me, I mean even HungryBox weighed in.
People were saying the Prize Pools were too Small, “only enough for 2 players to live a month” I recall one person tweeting. As someone who’s been advocating for Blockchain Technology in Esports, and has built a tournament system that rewards players per round, once again, I feel implored to make my case. If not for the potential gains, then for its efficiency in payments and registration alone. Alas, however many times I make my call, I feel it falls upon deaf ears, which is what brings us to this Case Study. Blockchain Esports needs a true Thesis.
The Process
Here’s what we’re going to do over the next 30 Days. If successful, we should have a steady stream of Lino Points (the token currency on Dlive.tv, think of a Twitch cheer or Mixer spark, but with more value and utility) coming in daily, each at a value of 1.2 cents USD.
Step 1 | Purchase Lino
This could be done by acquiring donations. But, to get ahead, we will be purchasing all our initial investment for this Case Study. We will be purchasing 21K Lino or $300 USD worth, which is the same as MMG’s initial investment into Dlive in 2018, which currently supports our LP rewards system.
Step 2 | Lock Lino Daily Schedule
The Goal here is to lock points as often as possible. Most community members on Dlive reward each other(donate) from what they get in their own rewards or chest(by viewing/chatting and claiming chests), and then lock what they please. MMG would do this strategy more often, except we have a lot of players to reward :)
Step 3 | Excess Lino
Should our Lino funds break 50K at any point during this case study
ISSUES / POTENTIAL SET-BACKS
MMG currently allows players for registered “LP Brawlers” in our discord server to claim prizes via LP donations at: 500, 1000, and 2000 LP, for a prize of $5 giftcard or paypal, $10..$20..
Why Lock Points? Staking (Proof-of-Stake)
Locking Points on Dlive.tv earns a user daily rewards on the Lino Blockchain (testnet), which people are currently able to access via it’s native Dapp(decentralized application), Dlive.tv. Users with locked points earn a daily “locked points” reward and “content bonus” reward, the later of the two typically offering less daily rewards.
This process of Locking Points is what’s known as staking in Blockchain technology. It is the engine behind what are known as “Proof-of-Stake” Blockchains, which have proven to be more energy efficient than “Proof-of-Work” Blockchains, like Bitcoin, where a person needs “mine” coins (solving complex equations with computers).
MMG holds regular weekly arenas, a KOTH event, and weekly tournaments where we take a loss in LP (as a company, in terms of gains vs losses). This typically adds up to an average of around 2K or more lino points a week in losses, so our locked points (or Content Bonus and Donations that aren’t just for entry fees) need to cover at least that much in order to expand.
Other Investments | Multiple Baskets
While our focus will be on Dlive.tv for it’s live streaming functionality, and ease of onboarding. We will also be creating Blog Posts on Steemit.com about this exact topic, which will earn some crypto.
We will also make an investment of $600 USD into the cryptocurrency market, at an undetermined time this month. Goal being to take another $300 of gains and reinvest in Lino.
