The Movement Away From Consoles to PC For Gaming
When I was growing up (I still am), video game consoles were hands down the go to for games. Not so much anymore..
It seems like the trend has changed. More and more of my friends have moved solely to playing games on PC ONLY and forgetting about their Xbox, leaving it in the dust.
Let's look at some numbers...
So, as of December 2016, Xbox Live had just under 60 million active users.
In comparison, League Of Legends, the most popular game on PC, SURPASSED 100 MILLION MONTHLY ACTIVE PLAYERS in September 2016. That's ONE PC GAME nearly DOUBLING the TOTAL ONLINE COMMUNITY of Xbox. PS4 numbers are similar. Talk about a PC takeover...
Before I started playing League, I couldn't understand why my friends were dropping consoles completely, but now that I've been playing for about a year I can definitely see why.. because my Xbox is getting dusty lol. The best part about it is League of Legends is free to download and play, whereas playing consoles online costs.
I'm sorry Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, but I think you are losing.. Cheers to all of the people who enjoy playing what I call modern team chess, League of Legends. And as always, Steem On!

It changed the point when even a cheap computer could run many many new games.
And yes, LoL had a huge role in that, but also the insane amounts of indie games released on Steam. And Steam in general, because now you don't actually have to go and browse games at a store and you get to keep your gaming collection forever. This fact alone will make 90 % of people who get into PC gaming stick with it and not switch to a console.
I love this resurgence of indie gaming, Valve is doing such a great job enabling these people to create content.
Great point. Most of my friends have steem also but I haven't gotten into it yet. Yeah, as things stand right now, I probably won't ever buy a console again. Just no reason to when there is so much good content on the pc for cheaper.
it's not even the price issue.
It's the same reason why iOS people don't really switch much to android - you already invested a lot of money into apps (games) on one platform and you switching over the other other one makes 0 sense because you no longer have access to them.
You get wiser with age? haha...
PC Gaming has always offered up more complicated and challenging games as opposed to consoles simply because you have more ways to interface with it. Top-down RTS games have been around since the early 90's and has always been one of my favorite genres, and consoles just can't seem to get them right with the control scheme. A keyboard and a mouse lets you really dive in and work your micro.
League itself is what I'd consider a great product. It's easy to learn and incredibly hard to master. Modeling after Icefrog's DOTA mod from Warcraft 2, Riot took a fledgling new type of RTS and really brought it into the spot light.
haha so true. It seems like almost every console game is just "point and shoot." It gets old after a while but thankfully pc games can take their place when you feel like playing something with a little more strategy to it. More thinking, more fun I guess!
I created a Steemit Community on PS4 where we can host events and have competitions among Steemit members.
Please join by requesting an invite from the Communities tab on your PS4 or reply with your Playstation account name and I'll send an invite.
Thanks!
