3 Things You Didn't know about the Grand Theft Auto : Vice City

I. Mini games

a.) Vicefree Bus Line

Vicefree Bus Line.jpg

There is an undocumented and largely unknown bus driving minigame in GTA Vice City: If the player hijacks a coach and stops at bus stops, pedestrians will board the bus. The player is awarded $5 for each passenger that they pick up. An easy way to make money is to leave the game running while stopped at a bus stop, and passengers will continue to board as they walk past.

b.) Keepie-Uppy Beach Ball

Keepie-Uppy beach ball is a hidden minigame in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City which challenges the player to continuously bounce a beach ball without it hitting the ground. Largely undocumented within the game, players can find a handful of beach balls in specific wide open areas in the city; the beach ball itself is identifiable by its red, white and blue color, and a slightly rapid bouncing motion.

II. Reference to Previous GTA games

a.) GTA III Claude

The Ocean View Apartment is located in the Ocean View Hotel, in Ocean Beach.
In Tommy Vercetti's room at the Ocean View Hotel there is a poster featuring GTA III protagonist Claude.

b.) Liberty City Easter Egg

At Escobar International Airport, several billboards can be found, and one of them has a reference to Liberty City embedded on it. The billboard reads Take a vacation in Liberty City with a screenshot of GTA III, in which Claude can be seen driving a Moonbeam on the streets of Liberty City. A damaged taxi is also present in the screenshot. Through this billboard, Rockstar is possibly trying to attract GTA Vice City players to play GTA III. Because Liberty City does not appear in GTA Vice City, this billboard is just an Easter egg.

c.) Rockster Video Games

The window of the store has character artworks of 8-Ball, El Burro, Kenji Kasen, and Maria Latore and the door has a Rockstar Games logo. The name 'Rockster' is written in the Pricedown font, which is the font used for the logo on every Grand Theft Auto game since Grand Theft Auto III.

The name of the store is also a clear reference to the Rockstar Games company, which developed and published the Grand Theft Auto series.

III. Scarface Easter Eggs

GTA: Vice City is heavily influenced by the Al Pacino starring 80s classic Scarface. Like the film, Vice City is set in a city based on Miami in the 1980s and features a ruthless protagonist involved in the drug caper. One of the most obvious examples is the Vercetti Estate that is clearly modeled after Tony Montana's mansion in Scarface

But there is also a cool reference to the infamous chainsaw scene. Apartment 3C in the Ocean Beach neighbourhood is a replica of the apartment in Scarface where Tony's friend is murdered by a chainsaw welding Columbian. Accessing the room from the southern staircase you will find a bloody bathroom and a chainsaw along with two bags of cocaine, the same amount as seen in the film.

The bloodstains in Apartment 3C's bathroom are a reference to Angel Fernandez, who is killed by the same conditions - in a bathroom with a chainsaw.

This is the original film scene:
