Let's Review: Helldivers

Helldivers is a top down shooter where you take the role of one of four Helldivers. In the game, you drop onto various planets to fight off Bugs, Cyborgs or Illuminates. The game is online and also splitscreen and can be played on PS3, PS4, Xbox, PC and various other consoles. I believe this is also an Indie game however if not, it's still only £15 ($20) and for the content inside, that's a steal.
This game is, to put simply, great. Whether you play alone, online with randoms, with friends or split screen on the sofa with a friend, doesn't matter. This game is insanely fun. The varying difficulties also offers anything from a super easy drop to an absolute Helldive.
The game also has an MMO type of element to it. Progress is decided in the game via Wars. Super-Earth is in the center of a map with Home Planets of each species in varying directions which you must push towards and take over. Once all three Home Worlds are conquered you win. Then the war starts all over again. This gives opportunities for events were all players must attack a planet, defend a base, wipe out a boss or, if all else fails, defend Super Earth from being taken over.
This game offers a HUGE array of weapons, armours, gadgets and air support. From drop in Mech suits to airdropped weapons like Mortars, cannons, laser rifles and LMGs. You can use shotguns, Arc shotguns, laser shotguns, assault rifles, carbines, snipers, pistols, SMGs, LMGs, revolvers, bolt action rifles, Rail guns or laser cannons. This game offers so many weapon types, all able to be upgraded too. Various armours, dozens of character skills from laser sights to jetpacks.
It should also be mentioned that this game can be hard. If a drop goes wrong it can and will go to shit very fast. If you're playing the easier planets this is less likely but on the Challenging, Hard or Insane drops it can become crazy with so many enemy types to deal with in varying sizes and shapes. However, the game has a learning curve that when mastered, can make the game far easier to handle. All it takes is a few hours of dedication to figure it all out, pick weapons and drop-able gear that work best for you and you'll be fine.
Helldivers, to me, is an easy 9/10.
I absolutely recommend this to anyone. Even if you don't like top down shooters, hell, I don't like them but it's still insanely fun.
Plus, the game has tons references to Starship Troopers which is an easy win for me. If you like Starship Troopers, play this game. It's the closest to a Starship Troopers game you'll get in modern gaming.
