Fortnite - First Impressions Game Review, by Ggt
Fortnite, the battle royale game that took the world by storm!
What is Fortnite?
A question many people ask nowadays as this new game sweeps the world by storm. To answer that question is simple. Fortnite, or at least the free-to-play version (Which what we'll be focusing on), is a battle royale survival game where you or a team of up to four players face off against others in matches of up to one hundred players in bitter attempt to be the last one(s) standing.
The game is filled with a variety of different weapons, mechanics and gadgets which players then use against each other to try to win. The best part about it all? The game's devlopers, 'Epic Games,' are constantly adding in more and more content to make the game more fun. And though the game may look more casual with it's cartoony graphics, the competitive aspect of this game is rich just like everything else!
Free-to-play yet tons-of-fun.
Two things that normally don't go together. We've all played tons of free-to-play games that each and every time let us down. Whether it be through a pay-to-win wall or even just overall bad game quality, most free-to-play games just aren't up to par and worth those gigabytes on your hard-drive. This is the main reason why Fortnite has become so popular among well, everyone. Because it's a free-to-play game, but isn't a bad game. There's no pay-to-win wall, only cosmetics and the game-play isn't trash, it's actually really fun.
Like stated before, in most free-to-play games there are massive pay-to-win walls who put players who don't spend money on the game at a disadvantage. What this means is if someone else spends more money on the game than you, they're going to be better off. Whether that mean through gear, levels or so on, they'll always have the advantage that puts them ahead. Fortnite doesn't have that. There's nothing game changing that you can buy which gives you the advantage over any player. The only thing you can spend money on in Fortnite are either season passes which unlock you cosmetics or cosmetics themselves. Some of these cosmetics include character skins for example! So when you hop onto Fortnite, there's no need to worry about someone being ahead just because they spent more than you, just the same playing field for all.
And another great part about Fortnite which has made it so popular is how it's on Xbox, PS4 and not just PC. It also runs really well on everything. Most free-to-play games are mostly shoddily thrown together and tend to have tons of game-breaking glitches or bugs that make the game not fun. Not Fortnite. I mean, the game does have it's problems but nothing serious and nothing the developers don't ever fix, which brings us onto our next point:
The Developers actually care!
That's crazy, I know. The developers of game actually care about the game and people who play their game. Epic Games has actively been listening to player feedback and making improvements on their game based off of what their players say. They actively update their game adding in new content and fixing bugs/glitches that would otherwise make the game no fun. With lots other companies like EA for example doing the opposite, it's honestly a breath of fresh air that we as player are always grateful to have.
Overall, when it comes to my first impressions on Fortnite. . .
It was great. The game was free-to-play and it was fun. Playing either by myself or with friends, dropping out of that bus and onto the battlegrounds below, there was always fun to be had. If you don't believe me, go check out the game for yourself and give it a spin. I promise you that you'll have just as much fun as I have, or your money's back guaranteed. Get it? Because the game's free!
