My first time in: My Time At Portia (Early Access)

This is me explaining my first time in the beta (Steam Early Access). Spoilers below, so play the game before reading!

So far I am enjoying My Time At Portia. I played the Alpha demo a good bit before playing the EA beta. The improvements are phenomenal and I am so excited for what the finished product will be.

Spending time in Portia can be as casual or hardcore as you would like. Yes, the crafting mechanics can seem a little overwhelming, but the game doesn't seem to actually expect you to hit the ground at full speed. I mean, you can, but you certainly don't have to.
Your first crafting missions involve making the typical basic pickaxe and axe. The materials are easily gatherable (after you realize that there are actually a lot more stones and branches laying about than you would initially think). Afterwards, you'll start needing copper and tin ore. You would think that you would have to start delving into the ruins and begin tearing up the walls (which is fun) however that is not the case. You'll find large, medium, and smaller stones you can use your pickaxe on (needing stronger equipment for bigger stones) in order to more easily get resources.

My advice, when searching for something via logging or mining, simply equip the appropriate tool and run around the world, you'll eventually start seeing things with "hp" bars. Murder those stones. Beats paying 80 gols (golds?) for a weekly pass into the ruins.
Regardless of finding materials, save for missions you acquire from the board and a few other random ones, the missions don't have time limits. Very early on you get a mission to build a bridge, which requires a good number of various materials and new crafting stations, but you can take as long as you need to make them. I personally built almost two of almost every station (partly because I could) and use one set to build things for the bridge and new workstations, and second set in case I need to make something for a commission.

Money can be a little hard to get at first, but commissions actually pay a good bit, and you can watch the market and sell things first hand. When the market is above 100%, that's the time to sell, and when it's under, buy what you need. Simple enough. To check where the market is at for the day, merely open up any shop and you'll see the info.

The NPCs themselves are amusing and interesting. I'm not terribly invested in anyone at the moment, but then I tend to be a bit of a loner anyway. I have so many other projects going on, I chat with a few people here and there if I run into them on my way elsewhere but that's all. However, if you do take the time to befriend people, there are actual benefits such as cheaper wares or stat boosts! Not to mention that whole marriage thing. If you're into that. . .

The world itself seems quite expansive, colorful, and full of interesting things I don't yet have the equipment to interact with. Randomly found some level 30 enemy while wandering aimlessly so that was fun.

Overall I am pleased with what I have experienced and am looking forward to more content. I will probably release a review in the future, once more content is released.
