Hotline Miami Gameplay Review

If you really liked Hotline Miami

By Charles Adrian Sison

Then you'll love the second one. I honestly had a really long thought out review of the game but like the game itself why bother, we both know why you wanted to play this game. Killing russians with a godlike soundtrack blaring in the background. I mean, what else is there to stay about this game? It delivers a perfect the mix of ultra violent retro style art gameplay that will leave you wanting more.

After two agonizing years of waiting for a sequel they finally came through with it and it is nothing short of a masterpiece, it gave us what the first game did and added so much more and even made what it seemed like a simple story into something complex and very intriguing. You have to give props to Dennaton for creating some very interesting characters to follow and the ending where everything they did sort of just meshed together, like a very intricate spiderweb they all met in the middle and oh boy nothing prepares you for the ending of this game

After I kicked down that very first door the game had me hooked again. Even when I died five times in a span of 2 minutes , I felt like i was having a great time. It amazes me how many different ways you can approach a room, no two methods betweeen players are the same, partly due to a slight randomization for each spawn where select enemies may not have the same exact weapons or a possible variation of their patrol routine.

The game delivers a perfect blend of fun gameplay with a very challenging difficulty that forces you to survey and be methodical about your approach, but at the same time the game rewards you for your recklessness and general madness. Technically you can spend a good 10-20 minutes dying and replaying the level, getting each part perfectly but where's the fun in that? Get a shotugn and just rush every last Russian you see. Even when you die the game knows you just want to get back in the fight and when that little prompt appears on your screen to press "R" it will instantenously bring you back and ready for another beatdown.

And the soundtrack of the game? Amazing. It's heavier and darker than the first game's and has a more diverse selection of artists. Honestly you can take a good portion of the soundtrack of this game and make some sort of gym mixtape which can you just pump you up and make you ready to beat the shit out of the next guy in a white suit you see.

So to summarize, if you loved the first game, buy the second game and get that sweet soundtrack with it. Get the free comic too, it expands the already colorful background of this fevered dream of a game. After beating the sequel it made me immedieatly want to go back and play the original. Between the level editor and the iron-clad gameplay the game will hook you and leave you craving for more.
