Lies of P - It's Borderline Perfect
See, a big part of what I try to accomplish with reviews is highlighting both positive and negative things about a game, even if the negative things I don't think hinder it that much. Things that bother me aren't likely to bother everyone else to the same degree. But here in the case of Lies of P I am faced with something I have never really encountered in trying to write a review, and that is the game is damn close to perfect.
So here is what I am going to do instead, I am going to say if this is a good point to jump into the Souls-like genre of video games. If you already enjoy or hate the genre, you're likely already going to know if this game is for you or not. What I want to do is talk to those who aren't sure about the genre itself.
Lies of P is probably one of the easier entries to get into for a few reasons. Like others of the genre, Pies of P is going to offer a challenge. The game is going to result in you dying over and over as you start to get the hang of different aspects of the game and the different gimmicks of various bosses and areas. That said, even with the game's 'Perfect Guard' mechanic being really difficult to do, there are plenty of ways to deal with these bosses. Just from a pure mechanical sense, it's a lot simpler to get into that many other of the genre. You're still going to get roughed up a fair bit, but lighter than others.
Things in the plot also don't get as vague as they do in some of the Souls games. Where is with Souls you are going to have to do a lot of looking into descriptions and lore to fully piece everything together, Lies of P is pretty straightforward by comparison. You will still discover a lot more by diving into the Lore, and it is quite rewarding, it's a good mix that isn't going to be as off-putting to people who hated having to do so much digging in a Souls game to figure out everything going on.
And that's what it comes down to, it's a great game to pick up if you want to get into the genre. I know it's not the most in-depth review out there on this game, but I think this is what I can add to the discussion. Most people will already be sold on this from genre alone, so I hope I could give a push to anyone on the fence about it to give it a shot. It is a great game worth diving into.
