RE: games you were most addicted to pt. 1 (DAOC)

in #gaming4 years ago

Dark Age of Camelot was the first MMO I ever played and really the only one besides Star Wars Galaxy. I loved DAOC. But as I only have time to play games like this intermittently, I really hate the subscription model. I still have DAOC boxed up somewhere on a shelf...

Sort:

It was one of the last games that I bought the additional compendium guide or whatever they were called. It was like $20 or something and broke down every little nuance of the game and the possible builds that you could have.

I also hated the subscription model but it was kind of all we knew at the time, right? Prior to this I was only aware of 2 other MMO's that even existed and that was Anarchy Online and Everquest.

By the way, do you recall what class or character type you were in the game? I tried to make many different ones but since leveling up took friggin ages, I focused on one main character, which was my first one. I don't remember what it was called but it was one of the Elven World ones that cast spells, was squishy, and had a little pet-like helper that would deal out melee damage on your behalf.

By the way I was massively disappointed with SWG. I feel as though they really missed the mark with that one and am interested in why you liked it so much.

No, I dont' remember what my character class was in DOAC. I do know I only ever really used one character though.

Star Wars Galaxies wasn't perfect but I thought they did a fair job immersing you in that world and I've always been a Star Wars fan. The first major enhancement I remember was adding ships which they also did a fair job with though it could have been better. It was really changes after that I thought made it worse instead of better though I don't remember the specifics now.
