Spoilers ahead for those of you who haven't played the newest Borderlands 2 DLC
So we’re given this new DLC that’s supposed to bring us more up to speed with Borderlands 3 in the form of Commander Lillith and the Fight for Sanctuary. Some guy named Hector comes in and turns everything into plants. New areas, new enemies, some familiar faces, additional level capping, and even a new rarity, Effervescent. The crazy effervescent glittery ass skins are probably the best part about this whole thing.
My biggest gripe in all of this is Hector himself. This has got to be the dullest villain I’ve encountered. It essentially boils down to this. Colonel Hector is taking revenge for getting fucked over by the Dahl corp. That’s it. He fucks up Sanctuary, nabs the key for…. reasons, Lillith destroys it all, turns out the key didn’t get destroyed and why did any of it matter then? Why did we go through all this? All we got was Lillith shouting some stuff about Vaults and how there’s no key. Then tells everyone to hunt the vaults and tells Ellie how the key never got destroyed, actually. I don’t see any reason at all why she had to hide that from her friends who would have been more than willing to help her quickly find the vault key and get moving, rather than aimlessly trying to find more vaults while one woman aimlessly tries to find a small stone cone on a fucking desert planet. And all of this was done in about 6 hours.
I was going to go more into talking about this DLC like how I enjoyed seeing Vaughn, and the Scooter tribute got me pretty emotional, but overall this DLC was pretty hollow feeling. I genuinely felt zero emotion of any kind for almost anything that occurred in the entire DLC except finding the effervescent Bandit Technical skin and jumping the big gap for Scooter. The enemies weren’t that interesting; just more things to point my reticle at, and I can’t even remember the bosses except there was a smaller version of Saturn. Or was it bigger? Either way, Tina made a Uranus/butt joke. Haha very funny. Just about as funny as the Dark web and crypto coins.
