But blockchain games are not just something we have to look forward to, there are some high quality, engaging games that we can play right now. Here are five games, listed alphabetically, that I currently enjoy playing every day.

Axie Infinity is a game that revolves around collecting fantastic creatures called Axies. Every Axie is unique, possessing their own set of genetic information. Traits are passed on through breeding allowing players the ability to grow a stable of Axies that, with a little luck, have a combination of abilities and characteristics that are useful in battle and valuable on the market. Players group their Axies into teams of three to face off , player-versus-player, against other teams in arena style matches. Careful consideration of team members, placement and action sequences can keep a strategic player busy for hours. Victory in the PvP arena is rewarded with increased Experience Points and glory on the global leader-board.

Chibi Fighters was the first blockchain game I ever played and I enjoy more and more as time goes by. Chibi Fighters are collectible warriors that have inheritable characteristics, they can be fused (bred) together to create new warriors with similar traits. What makes Chibi Fighters stand out, and why I keep coming back to it, is the plethora of mini-games and player-versus-environment (PvE) quests that your Chibi’s can take part in. The development team has also done a great job incorporating a few wagering systems and randomized loot that makes game-play enjoyable and profitable, even to casual players like myself.

EOS Knights is a fantasy themed, idle-game run on the EOS network (obviously). EOS is a comparatively new platform for gaming which may pose a challenge to new users, but also has many benefits for those that can overcome the technical hurdles. Transactions are nearly instantaneous and free, which makes EOS Knights’ entirely on-chain crafting system rather enjoyable and potentially rewarding. I have only been playing this one for about a week but I definitely see myself coming back to it every day, I have always been a sucker for crafting games.
If you don’t already have one from EOS’s genesis migration (luckily I do), then creating a new EOS account will probably be your biggest problem. Linking your new account to Scatter, EOS’ equivalent to MetaMask, comes next. With Scatter unlocked through Chrome browser you can now play the game at https://eosknights.io/ . The first character costs 0.1 EOS to unlock but after that the game is basically free to play, unless you “fomo” on more characters or some items from the player’s market. Mega Crypto Polis is an idle city building game where players take on the role of real estate developers. Players with larger bankrolls can bid on the rights to govern districts within the city. These districts are made up of hundreds of small plots of land that regular-joe investors, like myself, can buy, sell and develop. Constructing buildings on a plot will grant influence points to the owner; influence points dictate what percentage of dividends each player receives in a daily game-wide tax redistribution.

MLB Crypto Baseball is another game that I have been playing, or at least checking in on daily. The majority of time spent in MLB Crypto is in the marketplace, buying and selling collectible representations of actual MLB players. After starting a collection, players of the same team can be placed on a ‘game card’ that is used to enter the game-play aspect of MLB Crypto. Rewards for playing are the possibilities of winning new collectibles, your chances depend on how many players you have attached to your card, how that team plays in real life, your players attributes and your luck.
MLB season just ended so my activity in this game has died down but the developers have stated that between season game-play is coming, and I will be ready. It is unprecedented for an organization like the MLB to be working with a blockchain industry company, and I expect many good things to come from this collaboration.
