ADSactly Game Review - Injustice 2
Injustice 2
Finally the day has come where I review a fighting game, as requested by a few of you out there.
Seeing as we are all so deeply immersed in the superhero world, with all the Marvel and DC movies coming out, this just had to be the game of choice. I will be brutally honest with you guys, I am not the biggest fan of fighting games, as I get bored of them pretty quickly. The same goes for sports games, the repetitiveness kills me, once you play with every character and master their super moves, that's where the fun for me pretty much ends.
I went into this with some obvious biases, and truthfully I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this game. Since I was a little kid, my all time favorite superhero has always been Batman, so any chance to put on the dark knight's cape and cowl I'm in. This story however takes on a much more darker tone than what you are probably use to, if you're familiar with the DC universe and all the different character stories. This is very much a "What if?" kind of story set in an alternate universe, and there is no real cannon when it comes to comic book characters these days.
The story of Injustice 2 is a continuation of the previous game, Injustice: Gods Among Us.
In the first story Superman was tricked by the Joker into killing his own pregnant wife Lois Lane, which then sets off a nuclear bomb in Metropolis, killing millions. In a fit of rage Superman then kills the Joker, which causes him to loose his moral compass and he becomes an evil dictator. He establishes a world government that eliminates crime through a worldwide authoritarian regime, something the socialists would love to do. Only one to stop him is Batman, who establishes an Insurgency against this tyrannical regime, you can always count on old Bat's to do what's right. This causes a massive war to break out between the two factions, and all the members of the Justice League now has to pick a side.
Injustice 2 follows five years after what had happened in the first game, Superman was defeated, yes sorry for the spoiler but this is the downside of sequels, what did you expect, the good guys always win. Batman and those who joined him work tirelessly to rebuild the world. Just when you think everything is going great, a new faction emerges with their plans for world domination. The Society, led by Gorilla Grodd and many of those who were collaborators of Superman's failed regime band together to destroy the world once more. It's like the bad guys never stop, no matter how many times they fail, they keep coming back for more, now that's dedication.
There has been some major improvements made to the fighting mechanics following the previous Gods Among Us game.
The developers also must have put much more time into the characters, because they look better than I've ever seen superheroes look in a game before. Some really awesome new additions is the environmental attacks, in which you slam enemies with everything from cars to stuffed alligators, it's rather addictive and very fun. The very over the top Super Moves have also become even more over the top, from smashing opponents through the earth to using the Batmobile to mow them down. Something that I truly loved with this game was the new combo options, which does not take too long to master, although each character's is very much different. Another very welcomed addition was the Multiverse mode, which allows you to level up you fighter, and also to acquire new gear, which comes with amazing power gains, so you can take on more difficult opponents as you progress. The great thing with the gear is, the more rare gear, changes your character's appearance, giving each of your fighter a very unique look.
"Savior, monster. Guardian, vigilante. The preservation of life - so often the justification for taking it. Humans, elevating those that keep guard, until they watch too close, and the so-called "hero", condoning the very act he would condemn. Transgressions of the past shape actions to come, as "offspring" turns into "adversary". Yesterday's loss leads to madness, and "god" becomes "tyrant", becomes "outcast", becomes dust. As factions dissolve and form, and lust for power enslaves all...such folly and futility in the grand design. Curious how lines once cleanly defined become blurred. Perhaps it is time for them to be...redrawn." - Brainiac
My biggest issue I have with fighting games, usually there is not much of a story mode, but this is what really sets Injustice 2 apart from all those who came before.
This game has more content for solo players than any fighting game ever released, which makes this such a joy to play and it feels like you are actually getting your money's worth. I spent quiet a few hours on the story campaign chasing loot, which is done by completing certain objectives which then grants you loot crates that could hold some very rare gear inside.
The game improves massively on Gods Among Us, and the developer actually cared and listened to the complaints fans had about the previous game. Injustice 2 is visually delicious, the cut scenes and in-game character animations border on photo realism. The fighter selection is great with 28 different superheros and villains to choose from, and another 10 available thought DLC's, including the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I would totally recommend you get this as a great breakaway from all that solo playing , it's also nice having something fun to play when a friend comes over.
Injustice 2 is a fighting game developed by the scary folks at NetherRealm Studios, scary because they brought us the last 2 Mortal Kombat titles, and to come up those insane death moves, you might just be a little scary.
The game is published by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, who own the publishing rights to everything DC, and that must have cost a pretty penny. Injustice 2 is available on all on the usual suspects, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows and the game runs on the Unreal Engine 3. You might start seeing some deals on this title pretty soon, it is almost a year old and was release in April 2017.
I give Injustice 2 a knockout rating of 9/10
In case you missed it, here is the previous game review

What a great review. I nearly bought this game a few times now as it came up on PSN...hmmm...as soon as I'm finished Mass Effect and Nioh I'm gonna give this a go to go the long-form RPG a break and just get into some good ol' fisticuffs. I love the upgrade vibe with this. Very cool
Awesome then we hook up a fight, that would rock. You need to have some serious gamer patience to take on Nioh, that game is vicious.
What more can be said?
Very good fighting game in the lineage of the first Injustice, we find new characters more fun to play as each other and the return of big names in the first part.
My only regret is the less catchy story mode than the first one, and the presence of the Joker and Sub-Zero in the roster (the last is a dlc.) Which are only there to please and take the place of exclusive characters who could have been a lot more interesting.
Yeah I agree, was a little peeved about some story ideas, I mean some characters would never make the alliances as they did in this story.
kouba01 (55) good work

Injustice I didn’t like and I didn’t plan to play second part but you have changed my mind. Good review 👍
I really hope the Injustice 2 Marketing team sees this comment from you and send me free games in the future.
😀
I played the first Injustice but not this one here. The mortal Kombat games really evolved and sort of paved the way for this series to do really well. Definitely looks like a fun time with a bottle of whiskey...
Hahaha with a bottle of whiskey, I'm never tried that. Yeah I remember being a kid going to the arcade and playing Mortal Kombat with that epic 8 or 16bit graphics.
so dope
Once I found out it had the TMNT I was sold! Thanks!

Nice game review @adsactly, thank you.
