Ryse : Son of Rome review

in #gameworks8 years ago (edited)

Everything in Son of Rome is detailed, photo-realistic, and with great quality in acting. There is a strong ground for the game to evolve, but unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations.

The story is not something to remember. The main hero is Marius Titus. A soldier who becomes commander. He witnesses his family being slaughtered and seeks the masterminds to get revenge. The game is cinematic, it includes many Roman fighting techniques that the player has in his arsenal and of course the main characteristic of the game, combat.

" You will fight and you will do it hard, in every turn of the game and that is unfortunately all. "

You will fight and you will do it hard, in every turn of the game and that is unfortunately all. You will decapitate, mutilate, disarm, kill again and again with a cinematic view. It feels like you are in the middle of a fight with so many things happening around you, beautiful camera angles and quick time events (that is very hard to miss because they are not that much quick and when you do miss, they don't punish you?).

You will like it but after a while it will be a little annoying because this is the only thing you will get as you progress and after repetition it will be boring. The enemies are another issue, they look alike and this eventually gives you a bad impression. Your fighting routine is occasionally interrupted by sections of the game in which you have to progress in a designated way that is really no challenge. The game is short it provides around 6-7 hours. It also supports ultra-wide screen monitors.

Conclusion

To sum up, Ryse: Son of Rome is a polished cinematic game with astonishing visuals and splattering combat scenes but short in length, shallow considering the story and repetitive in its gameplay. I finished the game twice. The second time took me 3 hours and a half and it was for sure not that entertaining as the first one.
