Sonic Mania - Review by Spartan23R

So another lost soul from back in the days makes a return in 2017.. The coming back from Crash Bandicoot was a very good show, you can find my review about it here. But Sonic is back with an all new fresh 2D adventure!

This new Sonic game is not a remake of the old traditional ones, but is a new fresh game with the same feel/vibe and mechanics from the oldies.. Finally!! It was a bad move to transform the Sonic gameplay in a 3D environment that they are doing lately, those games always feel unfinished and got bad controles.

You can play as Sonic, Tales or Knuckles through the main story “mania” mode. After a while you also unlock the Time Attack and Competition modes. Time Attack speaks for itself, just go as fast through the zones as you can. The Competition mode was first introduced in the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2, in this mode you go racing in split-screen against a friend. You can play as one of the three characters and can choose for power ups to be allowed or not.

How is the rest of the game? Well the audio is fresh and nostalgic, the graphics are looking sharp and smooth and with 12 Zones and more unlockables than Sonic 3 & Knuckles it’s the longest 2D Sonic game to date. I’ve played this on a PS4 Pro and that gives a 4K Resolution at 60fps, who doesn’t want to play Sonic like that!?

I must say this game is one of my favourite Sonic games to date and feels like a true sequel to the 2D Sonic games. I give this 7 emeralds out of 7!
