Games Similar to CS: GO | First Person Shooter List!
When Counter-Strike appeared, everyone was just stunned. Other games had no chance with so many game features in one tactical shooter. You could play with friends, do some crazy LAN parties in your pajamas and participate in the movement that changed the gaming industry (at least when it comes to multiplayer modes) for years to come!
Counter-Strike series, by which we mean the classic CS content and Counter-Strike Global Offensive, was a phenomenon that took the gaming world by storm. During that time, no other popular games had such advanced technology combined with great gameplay. The concept was simple – two teams, one dirty bomb to plant – and that was it! There were no fancy game modes, just straight-to-the-point shooting.
Well, some time has passed, and although Counter-Strike is still being played all over the world, there are many similar games to this truly first game of the multiplayer FPS genre.
So, with that in mind, here we present the best of the other – games like Counter-Strike!
Doom
When it comes to sci-fi shooter takes – Doom took it all at one point. With special abilities, multi-dimensional combat, and crazy other equipment, FPS gamers worldwide loved this game for its great feel, crazy weapons, and upgraded armor.
The campaign in this game is just amazing. And it really does not matter if we are talking about the brutal assault on some demons or maybe missions consisting mostly of squads killing each other (or demons). Doom always delivered some good quality slaughter.
You may have been a hero of the story, but it was the teamwork that helped you win! Also – Doom proved that chainsaw and demon’s guts are a perfect match. Who would have known?
Key Features
- Sci-fi space shooter with demon vibes.
- Crazy weapons with BFG – a shortcut we cannot develop in this article.
- Fun multiplayer options.
Battlefield (series)
The one, the only, the Battlefield. It just feels right to put it on the list. For many years, this game was the golden standard when it comes to world war-themed shooters. It has introduced some really exciting vehicle interactions on the map, destructible objects, and amazing multiplayer options. If there were a game close to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, it would definitely be Battlefield.
So, what to expect? Well – other players in dozens, near limitless number of vehicles, cool guns, big maps, and characters with different skills for each class, depending on your gameplay. Playing Battlefield is like really fighting in some kind of battle, with great arsenal to explore and objectives to follow.
If you are a fan of having your squad back together and fighting the army of enemies – join Battlefield matches and forget about your limitations!
Key Features
- Great map to explore.
- Big choice of vehicles to try against enemies.
- Destructible environment.
- Great multiplayer mode.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege
Many games on this list seem similar to Counter-Strike because they are shooters, they have some tactical fighting, or you communicate with teammates to win. Well, not in this case.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbows Six: Siege is the game you have to try if you are a fan of good teamwork and two factions fighting to plant a bomb or rescue hostages. The fight is great here; teamwork and tactics scenarios really enhance the gameplay, and it just feels like a polished version of Counter-Strike.
With new maps, great guns, and so many similarities between these games, it just feels like a never-released sequel to the old and gold game that conquered the childhoods of many.
Key Features
- Really similar to Counter-Strike.
- Cool and fast gameplay.
- Tactics are essential – you can’t just barge into the place – you have to talk to your teammates and plan the attack on the enemy.
Call of Duty (series)
This had to be said – Counter-Strike has fallen partially thanks to the rise of Call of Duty. Especially the one and only Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (although Black Ops II is an underrated gem). This game just had it all. Great single-player campaign with emotional undertones that prepared you for online gaming and The Multiplayer.
Why The Multiplayer? Because it was multiplayer to conquer all the others. It was a new content, a new dimension even, a glimpse into the future of gaming that we didn’t know existed. With great classes and introducing customizable equipment with guns you unlock during the gameplay – it was a masterpiece.
Also, you could compete against an absurd amount of enemies – killing a sniper was never as satisfying as in this game. Victory tasted great in those times. Call of Duty (campaign and multiplayer) just had this vibe of being a lone soldier on the quest for survival. And it just clicked for many.
It is still good to this date, and with a new game coming out every year – you can definitely find something for yourself. What’s more, to get a feel of what it’s like to play it, you can check out the free-to-play version – Warzone.

Gears of War (series)

The latest Gears 5 is a really great installment to start, but you can also get an updated version of the classic Gear of War and try yourself in the first game of the series.
It has a lot of similarities with Counter-Strike, especially when you think about how much you have to communicate with your teammates. Although the multiplayer modes are quite different in both games, you can appreciate the level of developed modes.
In the beginning, there was Marcus Phoenix. And he will probably be there after everything is over to avenge our dead bodies with a grim on his face.
Key Features
- Great gameplay.
- Amazing story and character development.
- Has a depth to it – not yet another go there, kill that thing kind of game.
- You have to work with your teammates.
Apex Legends
If anything on this list feels like a developed version of Counter-Strike – it must be Apex Legends. It may seem crazy because of mechanics, the way the game is written, community, and how rewarding it all feels to become champions – it all may be different – but the whole experience feels like a step in some direction. Even if it’s not your cup of tea.
The concept is simple – there are many legends to choose from, each with different and intense abilities that can help you or break you. You are put on an island where you fight each other in some kind of Apex Legends games. You have limited resources that you need to gather.
The multiplayer is just great. For years, this battle royal was a prime example of doing things right. And – it managed to survive, with many saying it is just not possible to do so.
Key Features
- Many wacky characters to choose from.
- Futuristic and modifiable guns.
- Amazing multiplayer gameplay.
Payday 2
The criminal syndicate is waiting for you to join it! Payday 2 may not be the latest release, but there is a reason why people around the world still play it.
The heists are great, and you can do them from many different perspectives. Then, just split your money with your friends to have some better equipment for a new mission. It just keeps on going.
One of the best features of Payday 2 is that you can plan and execute a heist with your friend. The whole process is just fascinating.
Plan together how to get to the building, what to do with guards, how to protect hostages etc. – it’s just thrilling to think about it!
With great community and amazing customizable elements, Payday 2 will be the game to return to for many years to come. It sounds like a slogan, but it isn’t!
Key Features
- Amazing co-op experience.
- Many phases of planning the heist.
- With every mod – the game just gets better and better.
Final Thoughts
As you can see, there are many games similar to Counter-Strike. We couldn’t list them all, especially considering Half-Life as the father/mather of the game or Portal – a game that features player controlled Portals. But – it’s the same daddy Valve, so we can understand why it is comparable.
Anyways, there are many, many more games, but those on this list just feel like they belong to the Counter-Strike extended family/universe. You can get it in many versions, on Xbox, Playstation, or PC.

Thanks for sharing this list. CS: GO really did set a high bar for FPS gaming. It's cool to see how the genre has evolved since then. I remember stumbling upon https://skin.land/ while exploring CS2 skins. It was like diving into a treasure trove of customization options! One time, I found this sick AWP skin that made my gameplay feel extra badass. It's amazing how something as simple as a skin can add a whole new level of excitement to the game. Can't wait to check out some of the other games you've mentioned here.
