Breath of the Wild is a game of the year at the prestigious DICE Awards
As expected, Nintendo is the big winner of the DICE Awards - one of the most important ceremonies of the year in the gaming world. Action Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was awarded the "Game of the Year" award there.
DICE Awards are nominated and awarded by celebrities who are members of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Science with over 33,000 members. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has won four of the 24 categories, while Nintendo has won ten awards as publisher and developer.
This reinforces the leading status of the game, which played a special role in the market debut of the new Nintendo Switch console.
The Cuphead platformer, created by the small Canadian studio MDHR Studio, won three awards, while the Horizon Zero Dawn, Lone Echo / Echo Arena, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, and Snipperclips won two awards.
Fire Emblem Heroes became a mobile game of the year and the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was awarded the best racer. Injustice 2 won the category "Best fighting game", while the sports prize went to FIFA 18.
A special DICE Award for Contributing to Gaming Industry has taken Genio Takeda from Nintendo, who has over three decades in the company. Takeda has been involved in creating the Nintendo 64, the Nintendo GameCube and the Wii.
