Jaime Lannister, the gentleman without honor

Having both hands, Jaime Lannister would have no rival in the seven kingdoms. Or at least, that is the idea that the author George R.R Martin wants to transmit to both the reader of the saga and the viewer of the series.

The complexity and depth of the blond twin has given him a legion of fans as well as critics. And it is difficult to deny that there are times we wish him the worst fate, and other times when we feel empathy for him. This duality is what makes the character a masterpiece in itself. Not a hero, but not a villain, is the closest thing to a medieval antihero, but do not imagine Deadpool or Logan throwing a child out the window to discover them having sex with his sister.

It could be argued that Jaime is a Nihilist, however, he cares too much about his family to fit into that category. Is a man in love doing crazy things for his love? It is, but his greatest crime, that for which he lost the honor and respect in all Westeros, that by which happened to be called, matarreyes, responds to other reasons.

The Knights of the royal guard swear to protect the king with their own lives. Nothing but honor obliges them to fulfill that duty. They are admired and proud to be part of this elite group. His duty is independent of the king's actions, it is not his job to advise or intervene in his decisions, only to take care that the consequences of what he does never reach him. Starting from this point, Jaime's doubts and the low-level protests he shared with his peers are completely understandable.

It is evident that the ego was an essential component in the soul of the knights of the guard of the king Aerys Targaryen, to fulfill the duty, the honor, were slogans that surely these men were often repeated to silence the voices that the young gentleman bothered . And the question that needs to be asked when arriving at this moment is, is fulfilling the duty necessarily doing the right thing?
