Cryptocurrency mining malware continues to demonstrate why it is the preferred method of attack by hackers, not only for its profitability but also for the security it offers when it comes to hiding its identity.

Now, hackers seem to be aiming towards a new goal: gamers. This was reported by a Filipino user of Reddit, called Lestergonzaga, who claimed that the Garena server clients, from the popular game League of Legends (LOL) have been used to mine the Monero cryptocurrency without anyone having detected it, since the malware it acted as a background process connected to Coinhive.com.

Specifically, the devices of the gamers have been converted into a miner of Monero, and Lestergonzaga was the first to inform fans of his discovery, writing a note on the game's official subreddit. According to The Daily Sports, the publication of gamers attracted the attention of a large number of users, something that was reflected in the more than 12,000 votes in favor of its publication.

On the other hand, most of the gamers attributed the responsibility of what happened to Garena, for having allowed the malware to be introduced in their servers. As is normal in such a situation, another group of users began to suggest that not only LOL users, but all Garena users had been affected by the malware, however, this information has not been confirmed and Garena proceeded to eliminate mining malware from your system.

Garena informed through his Facebook page that in effect, there was an unauthorized modification in the LOL client server, where JavaScript code was inserted.
