NBA Wrap: John Wall quiet in no mercy game vs.Lakers; Warrior avoid 2-3 stars.
Wizards center Marcin Gortat laughed at LaVar Ball when he said Lonzo would not lose twice in one week when the Wizards and Lakers met Wednesday at Staples Center. Gortat also promised John Wall would "torture" the rookie for 48 minutes and the Wizards point guard vowed to show Ball "no mercy."
But it was the Lakers with the final blow in the spat, as Wall was quiet down the stretch in a 102-99 Lakers overtime win.
Ball scored just six points on 2-of-11 shooting facing Wall, but he added 10 assists and eight rebounds and the Lakers were plus-13 with him on the floor.
As for Wall, the MVP candidate scored 18 points and add nine assists, but he was 7 of 22 from the floor and had one basket in the fourth quarter and overtime. Wall was a minus-14 and missed a game-tying 3-pointer at the final buzzer.
LaVar Ball is certain to have plenty to say after this one.
The Warriors (3-2) have not started the season as they would have liked, but they fought through a less-than-stellar performance to earn a win against a good team in the Raptors. Golden State came from behind in the final minutes to defeat Toronto, 117-112. Stephen Curry finished with 30 points and Kevin Durant added 29.
Studs of the Night
Russell Westbrook tallied his second triple-double of the season in the Thunder's 114-96 win over the Pacers. Westbrook finished with 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting. He grabbed 16 assists and 10 rebounds.
Pistons' Tobias Harris tallied his second 30-point game of the season, finishing with 34 points, four rebounds and two steals in Detroit's 122-101 win over the Timberwolves.
Dud of the Night
Nuggets guard Emmanuel Mudiay has been relegated to a bench player and he's not doing too well in that role. In 14 minutes, he went 0 of 8 from the floor finishing with just two points and four rebounds.
Highlight
Rockets guard Eric Gordon is the reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year, but he was the MVP for Houston Wednesday with 29 points, five assists, four rebounds and a buzzer-beating 3-pointer that gave his team a 105-104 win over the Sixers.
