Which Casino Game Should You Play: Roulette or Baccarat?
You are playing a game of chance whether you are playing baccarat or roulette. This means that in order to decide which game is superior, we must consider additional factors. Let’s examine both games in more detail below to try to choose one out as the winner of the roulette vs. baccarat contest.
Which One is Easier to Play?
The several options for gambling are one of the initial distinctions between baccarat and roulette.
Given that baccarat has significantly fewer wagering alternatives than roulette and that you are familiar with its straightforward principles, baccarat is at least as simple to play as roulette.
In actuality, the multiplicity of bets and variations in odds and payouts make roulette more difficult to grasp. Understandably, hitting one out of every 36 numbers pays far more than hitting a red as opposed to a black number. Which, however, pays out more: a street bet or a “dozens” bet?
Trick question, of course. They both pay 2 to 1 and represent a single wager on 12 numbers at once.
When you understand the fundamentals of baccarat, playing is almost as easy as flipping a coin. You only have the option of betting on the player or the banker if you avoid the tie bet (for reasons I’ll explain later).
Which Has Better Odds?
Roulette wins this round with a TKO due to the variety of bets it accepts. Depending on the type of bet you place, roulette presents you with varied levels of risk. Red/black and even/odd bets pay even money, but single number bets pay 35-1 (if you’re playing on an American roulette table with a 0 and 00).
While baccarat doesn’t offer the distraction of lengthier odds, its odds are comparable to the red/black odds in roulette.
And let’s face it: Those longer odds are a big temptation for certain gamblers, no matter how much you claim you’re going to stick with the mild but more consistent even-money bets.
Which is Easier to Win In?
The only real method to distinguish between baccarat and roulette is by counting the number of ways a player can lose at each game since both are games of chance. Moreover, there are only three main bets available in baccarat: bets on the banker, player, or a tie.
In contrast to many other table games, the house has a smaller advantage on player and banker bets: banker bets give the house a 1.06% advantage, while player bets give the house a 1.24% edge. The house edge in blackjack is only 0.5% when faultless play is used.
One word of caution: In baccarat, betting on a tie gives the house a 14.26-to-1 advantage. Even though it pays 8-1, you would have to be quite bored to give the house such a big advantage. My advise is to avoid boredom.
In contrast, there are dozens of possible wagers in roulette, including 20 different types of bets (such as inside, outside, row, and column). Additionally, the odds on these wagers range from 35-1 to almost even money. With these bets, the house has a 5.26% advantage overall in the game of roulette.
The fact that there are many more possibilities to lose at the roulette table than there are at the baccarat table should not be neglected when deciding which game to play (baccarat vs. roulette).
Compared to baccarat, where the odds are 8-1, you can win more money playing roulette, because the odds are 35-1. But, your chances of winning at the baccarat table are far higher; for example, betting on the banker pays 51% of the time (if no one has bet on the tie).
This brings up another caution: Since ties occur less than 10% of the time, betting on the banker gives the bettor an edge. If no one has placed a wager on the tie, it is a push in baccarat. Casinos impose a 5% commission on banker wins as a result.
Comparison of Live Baccarat and Live Roulette
Even better, you can play live baccarat vs. live roulette online to create your own online battle.
You don’t need to wait till your upcoming weekend getaway to Las Vegas or Atlantic City to compare baccarat and roulette. Many online casinos offer live versions of roulette and baccarat.
Live dealers allow you to learn the rules and the details of the table arrangement while also getting a true sense of the tempo of each game.
Furthermore, the area around live dealer tables is not quite as busy. This can be considered a bonus or a drawback in your eyes, but I prefer tables where everyone is betting money.
In comparison to physical and store versions, live dealer baccarat and roulette both provide the following benefits: convenience (24/7, my friend), clarity (no distractions), and comfort (wine in your skivvies while sitting in your home office—don’t knock it if you haven’t done it).
Choosing Between the Two
Contrary to what you might initially think, comparing roulette with baccarat is more challenging. Both are chance games, as I just mentioned. The cards cannot be dealt in a predictable manner or the ball to land on a precise number using any technique or approach.
And even though the styles, guidelines, and betting possibilities of the two games are somewhat different, they both have good chances to increase a player’s bankroll.
With 1 to 1 payouts, you won’t become rich overnight, but if it were simple, everyone would be doing it. Hence, while baccarat is more of a coin flip game with somewhat better chances on heads than roulette, the latter offers the chance to take a flyer at odds that are greater than even (banker bet).
Having said that, if excitement is one of your favorite aspects of gambling, you’ll like roulette more easily. Baccarat, which is simply a coin-flip game, might also be referred to as a simple or ‘boring’ game.
