This is the Part III of my post from yesterday. You can check out the first part here and the second part here. In the first part I mentioned how much the world has changed compared to only a short while ago and talked about some of the aspects of life that will see even more radical changes within this century.

In the second post too I talked about more such aspects of human life that will be augmented as we travel further into the 21st century, some of which might really sound nothing more like science fiction today.

I would like to end this series here by talking about three more aspects of our lives that I think will completely change how we live and even how we view humanity as a whole.

Cities

Our cities have evolved tremendously in only the past few decades with multiple high rise buildings becoming the norm in any city. We have well organised infrastructure and everything that a human can possibly need is located within reach inside the city.

Cities are also rapidly growing outwards made possible by advancements in transportation and this will only continue in the future as more and more people flock to the cities for a better lifestyle.

By 2100, I imagine that cities will be filled with skyscrapers that are over 1 km tall. Right now, the tallest building we have is Burj Khalifa at 828m. We will have public transport that would be faster than the most advanced means of transport today.

I also imagine that trees and other plants will be a huge addition in the cities of the future. We could see vertical gardens and terrace gardens in almost all buildings.

Space Exploration

This will perhaps be one of our most significant leaps as a race. I personally believe that any intelligent civilisation in the universe, is destined to develop and reach a level where it becomes capable of exploring the cosmos and expanding its presence.

Call it curiosity, call it survival instincts or call it anything else, becoming a spacefaring civilisation seems like the ultimate path for an advanced enough race, and I think we will realise this within this century.

Plans are already under way to establish a permanent human presence on the Moon and Mars and by 2100, that will surely be achieved. As for a self-sustained civilisation or an Earth 2.0, that will take more years. How many, I don't know, but the process will be well under way.

According to some experts, we might also discover some form of alien life within this century as well. It might not be the advanced kind we see in movies, but even if it's microbial life, it will be one of the biggest discoveries ever!

Energy

A civilisation needs energy to make everything that I have talked about possible. Without energy, nothing would be possible. Ever since the industrial revolution, we have been using fossil fuels rampantly, as a result of which, we have made the modern world possible.

But all these have had at least some form of effect on the environment and there is also the matter of limited availability. That is where the renewable sources of energy come into play like solar, wind or water. But even these aren't as clean as they might appear.

That is where fusion energy comes into play. It is considered as the holy grail of energy and if we can harness the power of fusion energy, it could mean clean, limitless energy source for our race to power all of our activities for hundreds of thousands of years to come.

Right now, it is estimated that we will finally be able to control fusion reactions within a few decades, so I imagine that by 2100, the entire world would be powered by fusion power, solving our energy crisis once and for all.
