UPCYCLING PRE-LOVED FURNITURE & KNICK KNACKS

Before.JPGSo excited to share with you the first in a series of projects of transforming neglected & discarded pieces into modern desirable furniture using Annie Sloane chalk paint and various design transferring methods.

Chalk Paint Project 1: Transformation of an entrance hall telephone table.

Probably the biggest advantage of using chalk paint is the fact that no sanding is required before painting. So no elbow grease … big win!

Method:

• Dust & wash down the piece
• I always remove the drawers & handles/knobs prior to painting keeping screws and washers in a cup for re-assembly
• Have a container of water handy for keeping paint brushes wet and to add water to change the consistency of the paint when required
• Using Annie Sloane Old White paint, turn the table on it’s head and paint from the legs down to ensure that all the hidden nooks and crannies are covered and to reduce the possibility of drip formation
• Once dry, turn the table right side up and paint from the top down
• Paint the drawers separately & allow to dry
• Apply a second coat to achieve that velvety finish

Now the exciting part starts…

• Using sanding blocks or fine sand paper, sand over corners and rounded parts to expose the original wood colour, creates an aged effect
• Sanding the whole project with fine steel wool creates a smooth texture, which is ideal for design transfers. The smoother the finish, the better the transfer design result
