Get to Know HTC Dream, World's First Android Smartphone
Android is the world's largest operating system, everyone seems to know this already. Equipped with Android, many world smartphone manufacturers are profiting from selling their products in the market.
But not many know about the first smartphone that uses Android for commercial purposes. Is a Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturer HTC who introduced the first product that uses the Android operating system.
The first smartphone that uses Android HTC output is known as the HTC Dream. Unlike Android devices are known today, HTC Dream appears in the form of touch screen phone with sliding keyboard.
Launched from the TechCrunch page which quoted Thursday (7/3/2013), indication HTC Dream became the first Android-based device known when the Federal Communications Commission in the United States (FCC) provide endorsement since mid-August 2008. This smartphone was later released in the US on October 22, 2008.
When first released, the HTC Dream sold for US $ 129.9 with a 2 year contract for T-Mobile and US $ 399 without a contract. Android used was really early versions, namely Android 1.0 to the most powerful Android 1.5 Cupcake and Android 1.6 Donut.
Specification
HTC Dream actually has an interesting specification. The 3.2-inch TFT-LCD display comes with a 320x480p HVGA resolution display and capacitive touchscreen. While the CPU used is a processor-based ARM MSM7201A from Qualcomm with a magnitude of 528 MHz and 192 MB of RAM.
Storage capacity is only 256 MB with additional via microSD slot up to 1 GB. This smart phone also has an accelerometer to know the orientation for auto rotation is now commonly known.
HTC also buried 3.2 MP camera with autofocus feature. But HTC Dream comes without flash to help shoot in low light conditions.
By using the operating system that was already owned by Google, HTC Dream also comes with features from Google. Among other things are Gmail, Google Talk, Google Maps, and YouTube.
In the early versions of Android, rooting system was already done in the HTC Dream. With community root, users can become superuser to change the look, modify the display, to enable Wi-Fi tethering.
Unfortunately until now unknown results of sales of HTC Dream. But it seems that HTC Dream is quite successful, because HTC again decided to use Android on the device afterwards. (GAL)
