How to F@#k up when you meet a KING!
It seems like Colombian presidents are never prepared for Royalty meet-ups
unusual 4 inches shortening of the coat and atrocity committed to fashion lovers where in terms of sewing "ten centimeters are ten kilometers".
Back in July, 2005. The King of Spain Juan Carlos de Borbón and at the time prince Felipe VI, invited Colombia’s ex-president Alvaro Uribe to the Zarzuela Palace for a diplomatic visit.
At the time Uribe decided that the perfect Frac had to be designed for the special occasion. It was then when prestigious Colombian designer Ricardo Pava came to the rescue.
Word of mouth was that the designer had little to no time to design the Frac. With a popularity of over 75% the ex-president’s outfit was bombarded with mocking comments in social media due to the unusual 4 inches shortening of the coat and atrocity committed to fashion lovers where in terms of sewing "ten centimeters are ten kilometers".
13 years later Colombia’s elected president Ivan Duque had a really unorthodox behaviour meeting with King Felipe VI.
This diplomatic visit on the 6th of July of the present year is part of the tour around European territory, before assuming office in the 7th of August, as Colombian tradition since 1886.
“También sabe quien le mando muchas saludes? el presidente Pastrana”
(You know who sent you many greetings ? President Pastrana)
Skipping all diplomatic procedures, Ivan Duque without a neck-bow, shakes the king’s hand; like trump did in 2017 to the Japanese prime minister Shinzō Abe, only that this time it didn’t last 19 seconds on a strong grip.
Instead Ivan Duque decided to use his short time to address the messages of appreciation his friends and supporters ex-presidents; Alvaro Uribe(2002-2010) and Andrés Pastrana (1998-2002) have for his majesty King Felipe VI.
Watch video:
“Le mandó muchas saludes su gran amigo el presidente Uribe, que lo quiere mucho” (Many great greetings to his great friend President Uribe, who loves you very much)
King Felipe VI says something and Ivan Duque says (traduced): “Colombia, yes..exactly, they remember you a lot”. After noticing that Josep Borrell; Spain’s minister of external affairs, neck-bowed as formality when meeting a member of a royal family, Ivan’s facial expression shifted drastically. Seemed liked it only gave him courage to precede his garrulous behaviour with the king.
Within minutes social media started bombing the not so popular elected president.
After the meeting, the elected president Ivan Duque gave brief minutes to the media:
"We talked about the historical relationship between Spain and Colombia, and how we want to strengthen it for the coming years. I think it's a great balance, and I leave with a very good endorsement and recognition of the agenda that we have proposed to the Colombians," stressed the president.
If only people got to know his name during elections in 2018, now his popularity skyrocketed with the F@#k up in the palace.
