...unboxing a sexy, new Dyson V8 Absolute cordless vacuum. I think I'm in love!
It is 150% more powerful than its predecessor (the V6) and has twice the run time - 40 minutes instead of 20!
It comes with three different roller brush heads: one for hard floor, one for carpet, and one for upholstery. And an assortment of other little tools.
And they've resolved the annoying problem with the way the dust cup used to empty, requiring fingers to reach in and pull out clumps of hair and dust.
Now I just have to get my drill back from my friend, so I can mount the charging rack on the wall.
This is the first time I've successfully cashed in on an extended warranty. At the time we bought the V6, we had two very hairy, shedding cats, and although I normally don't spring for store warranties, we had a bad track record of breaking vacuums with such heavy, daily use. The manufacturer's warranty on a Dyson is two years, and the V6 - with exceptionally heavy use - lasted just shy of three years.
For an extra $150, I was able to upgrade to the top-of-the-line model. And the fact that owning a top-of-the-line vacuum cleaner makes me so darn excited is a sure sign that I'm a real adult now :-D
Sadly, I have to wait until tomorrow to use it, as it needs to charge overnight first.

Omg I rather dust and vacuum as normal.
A cordless vacuum is life-changing. I bought my first lightweight cordless vacuum in 2010 (a Hoover Linx), and have never gone back.
