LATE KNIGHT, a fairy tale

Once upon a time on the isle of Avalonia a knight in shining armor named Sam was born who was always looking out for other people. Sam willingly sacrificed his own well-being to help others.

When he was 17 he left his family home to seek people in need. H returned after successfully battling a baby dragon in the next kingdom, only to find his home burned down. His entire family, along with dogs, cats, horses and chickens perished in the blaze in the middle of the night. Neighbors believed the fire was set by an enemy family originally from France who wanted to gain power for themselves. No traces were left to determine the truth of the allegation, although the French family soon after were awarded the titles and privileges that originally had belonged to Sam’s family.

Unfortunately Sam had a weak spot in his character. He believed he was the only person who could discern the truth of any situation, so it made him somewhat overconfident.

After the fire Sam no longer had a home, so he took to the road on his quest to be helpful. Often Sam arrived too late to help, as had happened with his own family. But he never stopped trying.

At his death, his armor, no longer new and shiny but old and rusty, was buried in sacred ground in Avalonia.

A plaque at his grave read:

Here lies the Late Knight Sam.
He was a good guy and always tried very hard.
