Return of the DIY Infomercial

in #funny8 years ago

So beyond the general irritation that inevitably occurs while browsing on Facebook, I now get bombarded with these "creative" DIY posts for everything under the sun. Not to be outdone by the infamous infomercials of yore where bored housewives and the elderly spent many a long night by their landline telephones just waiting for their willpower to be overtaken, the pristine denizens of the internet have decided to capitalize, too. Of course 'capitalize' in this day and age isn't about selling much of anything other than their immortal soul for clicks, link-backs, and fraction-of-a-penny advertising revenue. But since I'm an atheist and don't give a damn about what remains of their souls, I've no choice but to link to some of their videos here.

Like this little gem from Smart School House, representing their creative take on DIY Lunchables which have been around for the last 3 decades.

This video had 11.5 million views, for an idea that is the most inanely counterproductive load of BS I've ever seen. Who in the hell spends energy to cart off three spoonfuls of cereal and an ounce of milk anywhere? Wait a second...can we make this idea even dumber...is it possible? Yes! We can use the infamously retro, pinnacle of the hipster community, mason jar!

What's that you're saying? It's the least ergonomic, most difficult to clean, and most germ friendly container currently accessible to the public? Truth be damned! We have a planet to save, we can't let the progress of the last 30 years prevent us from reverting back to our lunch-pail toting agricultural roots! Hold on a second...this curdled milk is sending me to the outhouse for some 'me' time.

Do people just sit around saying "How do I capitalize on some ancient practice that would have been creative 70 years ago, but is a total waste of time today?" Not only have these products been readily available in their finished form for literally decades, but compartmentalized tupperware is cheap, reusable, and comes in dimensions that are easier to store, transport, and clean. There's a reason why people moved away from glass containers...a reason that's readily apparent to anyone lugging around a bunch of glass jars. Try it and see!
