Excuse 34:

“I just started a new job and I should be getting paid.”

Now here's an innovative way of saying you lost your job. If the person giving this excuse has actually quit one job and started another right away, he should have money coming in from one of the two jobs and hence have enough for the rent. What probably happened is he got laid off (or fired) from the first job and took two weeks to find another, and that's why he doesn't have any money for rent. Letting the landlord know up front that you have a new job will tend to allay fears on the part of the landlord that you won't be able to pay the rent for some time, and the landlord will probably go along with a delay if you can give some definite time when you expect to get paid.

Don't use this excuse very much, however. If you are constantly changing jobs every month or so, it tends to indicate you are unstable financially (and perhaps mentally as well), are probably being fired for not performing at work, and hence are someone who is likely in the future to get into a spot where you are unable to pay the rent and leave the land-lord holding the bag.

It would help if you could claim you're getting paid more at the new job. This implies you switched jobs to make more (even if the implication might not be true . . . you didn't actually say it) and hence will be better able to pay the rent in the future. The down side of this is if you get in trouble in the future with your rent, it is harder to come up with an excuse at that time because you are now making more money.

Don’t forget to follow me to learn all these excuses. One is bound to fit your situation. And an upvote is always appreciated. It will help soothe these painful memories.
