Arnold and his fungus

After all the recent rain I noticed that Arnold the tree from hell had some weird fungus growing on one of the cut stumps. Although it looks like cooked porridge, it is actually a fungus, perhaps a type of slime mould.

As for Arnold, it was sprouting away

A friend agreed to come and spend a few days attacking the base with a chainsaw and pickaxe and 3 days later, this is the result:

What you see on the right corresponds to the bottom third of the picture on the left so he made substantial progress on it and a giant pile of fragments. By this time next week, I will have only a huge pile of rotten woody stuff that is fit only for compost. At least it decomposes quickly.

Sort:

What does modern technology mean? It can quickly turn trees into piles of sawdust and wood chips.
It is a pity of course that this tree did not grow where it should have been.
But I think, if necessary, you can put a new one.

I would have broken quite a few of those on this tree

Just don't turn your back on Arnold :-)

I intend to put him behind me ;)

Terminó con algo que le molestó y ahora tendrá mucho material para sembrar como lo es el compost, esa es una parte positiva.

Yes. Unfortunately this tree is an Ombú and they are known for damaging walls and houses. It's busy breaking the wall down for the second time

¿Pero este no es un árbol típico de su país o me equivoco? es un árbol enorme de grandes raíces, para no estar cerca de casa.

Exactly. It is not native to Africa and some fool thought it would be a good idea to plant it in my tiny yard right next to the wall about 15 or 20 years ago

You killed Arnold! :o

Did you touch that slime? Did you? ;p

I have to :( He is on to breaking the wall a second time now and I do not want to have to pay to build a new one, it's going to be enough to to fix this one.

Did I touch it? Hell, no! Although it was more granular than slimy 8-(

I would poke it with with a stick :p

Ahahaha!

Poor Arnold...he only just wanted to live... can those sprouts be plucked and planted else where? or it is not one of those type that would grow from cuttings?

Arnold is indestructible but he is also considered an alien invasive species in my country so it is best to remove him completely

Yes, hard and laborious work!

Will Arnold be back ? :-)

Not if I have anything to do with it

Hmm i bet you could put some spore plugs into arnold to finish him off faster. Oyster plugs might work especially if slime mold is there.

The fungus season is very short-lived in our part of the world and was only there because of daily rain. It is back to hot and dry although I noticed today that parts of Arnold are fermenting because Phytolacca don't have true woody structures, they are more like weeds on steroids
