The Immortal Jellyfish
The reset button
Almost everyone knows that at one point in our life we will grow old, frail and weak. And true enough, almost old couple asked if they can go back to being young again and experience life anew, would say yes.
What if there was a way for us humans to, keep our memory and then with all our knowledge and experience be a baby again and experience life as if you were just born again? That would have been a very tempting offer and surely I'd be interested in taking that blue pill or hitting that reset button. Sadly, with our current tech we cant do that yet.
But what if, a certain living creature can after growing old, change themselves into their baby state and then start over again?
The immortal Jellyfish
Enter, the immortal jellyfish.
Turritopsis dohrnii fondly called by the science community as the Immortal Jellyfish. Their secret? When they turn old they revert themselves back to their juvenile state. Yes, hitting the restart button is a good analogy. It turns out that once the adult form of the Turritopsis dohrnii have reproduced, they don’t die unlike other common jellyfish. Instead, they transform themselves back into their juvenile polyp state. Their tentacles retract, their bodies shrink, and they sink to the ocean floor and start the cycle all over again. And the incredible thing is, they can do it again. Over and over again.
Well they are not godly beings although they can do this they can still die due to predatory reasons, or to a certain desease or even loss of food and habitat. We have yet to fully understand this creature and I myself look forward to knowing more about it in the years to come.
Wow!! Jellyfish
