Lipoma

A lipoma is a slow-growing lump of fat that most often lies between the skin and the hidden muscle layer. A lipoma, which feels pasty and usually does not hurt, moves easily when pressed lightly with the fingers. Lipomas often go undetected in adulthood. Some people have more than one lipoma.

A lipoma is not cancer and is usually harmless. Treatment is usually not needed, but if the lipoma bothers you, is painful, or grows, it is best to remove it.

In the hand?

Any abnormal lump of the hand or wrist is considered a tumor. The word "tumor" does not necessarily mean malignant or cancer. In fact, most hand and wrist tumors are benign (not cancerous).

Tumors may appear on the skin, such as moles or warts, or under the skin in soft tissue, or even in bone. Because there are so many types of tissue in the hand (e.g., skin, fat, ligaments, tendons, nerves, blood vessels, bone, etc.), many types of tumors can occur. Only a few are commonly seen. A medical examination and medical history review by a hand surgeon can help determine the type of hand or wrist tumor you might have.

Treatment

Surgical removal of the tumor is usually the most successful treatment. This allows a pathologist to analyze it and determine the type of tumor. Many times, surgery is done on an outpatient basis.

Some patients may choose to do nothing and simply live with the tumor once they learn that it is not cancerous. However, if the tumor changes (e.g., skin color change, pain, enlargement), or if it causes other problems, such as numbness or pain from pressing on a nearby nerve, then another evaluation by a hand surgeon is recommended. You and your hand surgeon can choose the best treatment plan.

I couldn't just go on with such a tumor in my hand. But I understand that if the author described such cases in the article, they aren't isolated. I'm surprised at such indifference. A hand lipoma at least causes discomfort when performing the most everyday activities. I ignored the strange rash on my face for a long time, thinking it didn't interfere with my life. But one day, I won a free food toxin perception test. Thanks to it, I learned that the rash is caused by two foods that I shouldn't eat. I eliminated them from my diet and enjoying my clear skin now. It was simple, right? With a lipoma, the situation is the same - it's easier to make an effort and get rid of it once than to pretend that it isn't there.
