Educational Session in the Afram Plains #Eastern Region
No one lights a candle and puts it under a table or an obscure place, rather it is put on a high place, on top of the table, in the middle of the room for it to shine for all men and women to benefit from it. In the same vain you do not gain knowledge and sit on it, you ought to spread the knowledge and the wisdom acquired through the knowledge that other may also be enlightened to walk along the right path.
For this reason educational session are part of all our preceedings, whenever we go for an outreach we make sure that the indigenous people of the town understand what we are doing, what we are about and how to take care of themselves in our absence looking out for significant signs and symptoms and to visit the eye specialist as often as possible.
In light of this Volunteers of @bettervision travelled to the Afram Plains in the the Eastern Region of Ghana to provide free healthcare service and enlightenment to the townfolks. The known is well known for its fishing activities as it supplies a greater portion of Ghana with both fresh fish and smoke fish, it is secluded from mainland and as such one has to board a mini ship to get there, irrespective of that I must say it is worth it.
What is @bettervision about?
@bettervision is is a project initiated by @nattybongo and friends to give back to the society the knowledge and skill acquired through the Optometric Studies in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. It is an outreach system where we visit the less privileged communities to offer free eye screening services and education to the people within the community
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To reduce or prevent vision loss through diseases such as glaucoma, cataract and refractive errors.
To enlighten the majority of the Ghanaian population about the importance of proper visual care.
To conscientize people on the need for regular eye checks
To get more people to have their wards screened within the Critical periods of a Child’s Vision Development; thus from ages 3 to till about 10 years.
To help the blind and people with low vision live a better life within the society through education of the general public to stop stigmatization.

Rice is a common food all across the globe now and there are various ways of always modifying its cooking to produce a different delicacy, that way we never get tired of it. In the Ghanaian indigenous setting the most popular delicacies here are plain rice with stew, braised rice, rice balls, jollof rice, fried rice and the wonderful awaakye, (maybe in the future we can learn about the Ghanaian culture in a more detail fashion). Rice is a carbohydrate and fall under the body building foods, it is also a great source of energy and has a very high nutritive value. It is free of gluten and some researches have even proven that it has anticancer properties and prevents constipation. Thus the children will be having lots of benefits from eating the rice we presented to them and go a long way to also improve their health.
